Armani Code Luna EDT review

‘Ah la la la la luna, the night that we fell under the spell of the moon!’

Anybody else remember that horrendous Belinda Carlisle song? My sister and I used to love it and stuck it on a mix tape (ah, the 80’s) that me made my poor parent’s suffer through on the weekends when we drove to and from our family farm in Graaf-Reneit. And that wasn’t the worst of it; we were big into Jive Bunny too *hangs head in shame* Oh! And Sister Sledge’s Frankie was another big favourite.

Anyway, enough horrible 80’s flash backs, let’s talk about something brand new and awesome:

Armani Code Luna EDT

Armani launched Code for Women EDT a couple of years back and, since then, have added several limited edition re-interpretations to the line up. (Think Elixer, EDP, Sheer, Summer etc.) The latest one, Luna, is all about ‘magic, mystery, seduction and dark romance’.  Hearing that, you’d think it would be the kind of scent best suited to wearing at night (‘under the spell of the moon!’) but, to me, it’s a soft, pretty scent that’s perfectly suited to daytime.

Still, one of the key notes is called Mirabilis (AKA Fleur de Lune), a flower that only blooms at night.

If unicorns ate just one particular plant I’m quite sure it would be night-blooming Mirabilis.

While Mirabilis and orange blossom make up the heart of the scent, the top notes are Italian bergamot, bitter orange and pear and the base notes are vanilla and wood.

On my skin, Armani Code Luna is a soft, wispy, comfort scent. I get the citrusy top notes at first spritz and then it quickly settles into a warm woody-vanilla with a hint of powder. (I find Armani’s always been good at creating scents that smell ‘warm’. Emporio Armani, Mania and Sensi are good examples of that.) You’d think mixing orange and vanilla could be a one way ticket to sickly sweet creamsicle-ville, but the fact that the orange is bitter and the vanilla is tempered with wood means it’s actually a sophisticated-smelling juice and definitely not too sweet in the least. Something about it reminds me a bit of Dior’s Hypnotic Poison Eau Sensuelle, another scent with an ‘orange top/floral heart/vanilla-wood base’.

Want to smell it for yourself? Armani Code Luna is in store right now. 50mls is R759 and 75mls is R849.

Love, love
