Hey girls
Have you all managed to find gorgeous blue and white rokkies for the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate on the 8th? This is one of my favourite events on the Cape Town fashion calendar and not to be missed.
Anyhoo, I chatted to Samantha Walker, best known as La Muse from Pop Ya Collar. She’s a style judge for the best dressed competition, so I thought I’d get the low down from her in regards to exactly what she’ll be looking out for.

So tell us, what does it take to win the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate best dressed competition?
I will be looking for someone who stands out in the crowd. They don’t necessarily have to be in the most brave outfit – I am looking for true style and flair! The outfit needs to suit the wearer, it’s not just about the outfit, but also the relationship between wearer and garment.
Have you got your dress sorted out yet and if so, can you spill a few deets on what it looks like?
I will be wearing a very classic-looking, almost Jackie O-style white dress from Only One boutique. (Leigh here – you can read my post about the launch over here). I definitely recommend all the girls to go and get there dresses there, it is one of my favourite shops at the moment.
Will you do your own hair and make-up? And if so, what kind of look do you want to create?
I will be doing my hair and make-up; smoky eyes and a few curls in myhair.
I’ve got my rokkie, but need some fab accessories. Do you know any secret hot spots that you could suggest I go look?
The theme this year is timless elegance and the girls are being encouraged to wear hats. You can find some great hats at second-hand vintage shops like Second Time Around. (196 Long Street).
What nail colours will you be rocking this summer?
Red.
Finally, do you have any final style tips for girls going to the event?
I definitely recommend flats instead of heels. You want to be comfortable for the whole day and be able to dance later to Zebra & Giraffe!
And there you have it chicas! Now get busy planning that killer outfit and don’t forget to enter my L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate competition. You can win double tickets to the event plus a nice, big case of vino!
See you at le track,
Leigh
