Just got back from the most heavenly experience at the Cape Royale’s Equinox day spa.
The spa’s recently had a little make-over following its move from the 7th floor of the five-star hotel to the 1st. It’s now even sleeker looking – a real chrome, glass and chandelier-bedecked affair.
Janice says they’ll be doing all sorts of exciting new packages together as of next year. For example, you can come in and enjoy a wine-addled ‘group treatment’ with your girlfriends and rock out to your very own play list! Already I’m thinking of how divine a spa birthday party would be, awash with champers, SpaRitual pedis and Bony M’s greatest hits! (Yes, really. That’s what I’m into, okay? Don’t be judging now… It’s my spa party and I can get my Ma Baker on if I want to… )
Treatment-wise, they’re expanding their menu to include pampering packages that are a bit more top-to-toe. You’ll be able to come in, throw yourself down and get exfoliated, wrapped, massaged and ‘facialed’ into a delicious coma of bliss! These new, ultra indulgent options should go live on their site in the next two weeks, but in the meantime, you can check out the old treatment menu here. (The prices of everything else won’t be changing, which is great as they really are reasonable. For example, a 90 minute ‘Deluxe Muscle Melt’, which involves a spa mani, pedi AND a hot stone massage is a mere R350,00. Love that!)
I was lucky enough to enjoy a decadent Dermalogica ‘Celestial’ facial using products specially tailored to my oily-combo skin type (R595,00). This includes a half hour back massage which was completely and utterly heavenly. (Deadlines? What deadlines?) My therapist, Charmaine, is truly gifted with her hands.
I’ve never been cray-cray for facials as I often leave feeling a bit ‘meh’ about the whole experience. I’ve had so many therapists simply slather a series of products into my face and that’s that – leaving me thinking, ‘Flip, I could’ve just cleansed, toned and moisturised myself at home…’ This treatment, however, made use of a soothing steamer to help the products penetrate even deeper into your skin. I also loved how Charmaine applied each and every ‘layer’ with an incredibly relaxing facial massage technique that included my neck and chest. The best bit, however, was that while Dermalogica’s creamy Intensive Moisture Mask worked its magic, I was treated to a lavishly long foot massage! I kept on thinking she’d stop any second, but the girl kept on going and going like the Energizer Bunny while I almost dozed off to sleep…
Girls, believe me when I tell you that Equinox spa is an absolute oasis of bliss.
Next time you feel you’re in need of a luxurious pampering session, don’t hesitate to give them a ring. You could also treat a (very lucky) friend, safe in the knowledge that you’re giving her an ultra-indulgent experience she won’t soon forget. But book soon – they’re currently running a great special that sees you scoring a facial AND a manicure for just R580,00! How can you resist?
