Spoiler alert: You’re going to want the MAC x Isabel and Ruben Toledo collection. Like bad. Real bad.

Come the 12th of March (my birthday, actually!) MAC Cosmetics launches a vibrant new collection called MAC x Isabel and Ruben Toldedo. Now, in the name of full disclosure, I had no idea who those people are but a quick google revealed that Isabel is a fashion designer best known for creating Michelle Obama’s inauguration dress while her hubby, Ruben, is an artist.

Out the loop-ness aside, this collection is one of the nicest I’ve seen in ages. I love that the majority of the colours are all super-wearable as opposed to avant-garde. Then there’s the Blush Ombre. (R600 a pop). I don’t know about you but I’ve always been crazy partial to a good ombre blush.

Up top you're looking at Blush Ombre in Azalea Blossom and down below is Ripe Peach (OMG, I want you with the passion of a thousand fiery red lippies) on the left and Kindergarten Red (which looks more coral to me) on the right. Each shade is R600 a pop.

I also love that the lippies (R240) serve up three choices of red (which is big, big news right now) and that coral is one of the few I can wear that doesn’t diminish the brightness of my smile. (Many corals that have too much yellow in them will do that. This is why blue-based lippies, in general, are your friends.)

From left to right: Oxblood*, Barbeque, Victoriana, Tenor Voice, Opera and Sin.

*I know, I know – surely the nude lippie isn’t called Oxblood. That can’t be right. But it is. Weirdly.

The lipglass (R230) is a reflection of what’s going on with the lipsticks, making them pretty much manna from heaven too…

The Toledo collection includes four attention-seeking mascaras (R260) and three eye pencils (R240). I’ve tried the latter and it’s creamy, dreamy yet super impactful formula glides on like freshly washed hair swishing around on a satin pillow case. Love, love, love!

Modern Twist Lash ascara from left to right: Caligraphy, Chlorafill, Tarot and Vinyl. Pearlglide Intense Eye Liner from top to bottom: Petrol Blue, Chlorafill and Designer Purple.

Of the collection, I was given three items and I love each and every one of them.

Pearlglide Intense Eye Liner in Petrol Blue, lipstick in Barbecue and Lipglass in Victoriana.

Other items in the collection include three eye shadow palettes (none of which I’m crazy about) and three super accessible nail polishes (pale pink, red and oxblood). To check out the full collection, visit MAC’s foreign website and then watch the local one like a hawk so you can be one of the first to nab that peach-coloured blush. Let’s not pretend you don’t want it. I know I do. So here’s hoping I beat you to it. Ha!

Love, love

Leigh
