Crabtree & Evelyn have recently launched a new interpretation of one of their most luxurious fragrances, Evelyn Rose.
The original Evelyn Rose was inspired by an actual rose of the same name that was bred especially for the brand. The new scent retains the sophistication of the original, but has been injected with a new freshness thanks to juicy peach top notes and the addition of jasmine, violet and bergamot to surround its lush, rosy heart. This all rests on a warm, sensual base of amber and musk to create an opulent new scent that’ll be appreciated by anyone who adores a fresh, true floral or anything where roses get to be the hero.
To celebrate the launch, the brand invited a bunch of us beauty folk to an indulgent afternoon tea at Cellars Hohenhort in Constantia during which I consumed a shameful amount of mini macaroons and delicate pig’s ears puff pastries that where so light and airy you’d be forgiven for writing them off as zero cal.
Prior to this, we got to take a stroll through the restaurant’s rose garden accompanied by a violinist while sipping on sipping on rose-infused smoothies. Tres fancy pants! Usually, the beauties I end up gravitating towards are a bit of a rowdy bunch so it was fascinating to see how the elegant atmosphere affected the mood. Suddenly we all had good posture, crossed our legs and resisted the urge to fling about disgusting, unladylike phrases like ‘holy fuckballs’.
Of the entire Evelyn Rose collection, the item that has caught my attention is the solid perfume that I was lucky enough to find it in my goodie bag. There’s something so darn glamorous about a solid fragrance. I love that it comes in a cutesy little mini purse and the gorgeous gold packaging feels weighty and expensive in your hand.
While I’m very much a chic in the city kind of girl, there’ll always be a part of me that longs for a bit of olde worlde, straight-backed almost Victorian elegance that I associate with Crabtree & Evelyn. A part of me that would secretly adore a white four poster bed next to a ball and claw bath in a world where I use delicately scented draw liners and a silver tong to drop a sugar cube into my Royal Dalton tea cup. The moment I dad Crabtree’s solid perfume on my neck I’m channeling Keira Knightly in Anna Karenina. Or maybe Gwyneth Paltrow in Emma. Either way, I’m having a bodice-rippin’ romance with my Evelyn Rose solid perfume.
We also got to get a sneak peek at two new collections that’ll be in store soon; the zesty herbaceous Tarocco Orange, Eucalyptus and Sage which launches in May (Divine, divine! It reminds me of Clarin’s Eau Dynamisante which I adore) and the fresh fruity-floral Somerset Meadow that’s out in September.
Now tell me, are you also a Crabtree & Evelyn fan? Which of their gorgeous goodies do you most adore?
P.S. Crabtree & Evelyn were nice enough to give us rose bushes too. Alas, as I live in a flat and pretty much murdered my last two orchids I immediately found it a spot in a rose relocation program. I.e. I dropped it off at my green fingered aunt who, as it so happens, is called Rosy.
See my Aunt’s wicked-looking smile? Back in the day when I used to churn out sex stories for Cosmo, I’d hang out at my Aunt Rosy’s place ‘cos A) she was the only other person I knew who didn’t have to be in an office and B) she always has rusks. She’s also super creative and totally helped me come up with half the stuff I had to write about. I do hope the boys of South Africa know they have my beloved aunt to thank for much of the bedroom action they’ve experienced should their vrouens be Cosmo Girls…
Love you Aunt Rosy!
