Garnier Ambre Solaire Golden Protect sunscreen review

Garnier Ambre Solaire Golden Protect is a new range of sun care products promising top-notch sun protection that complies with all those super confusing new sunscreen laws while enhancing your skin with a subtle shimmer.

I was given their Medium SPF 20 lotion to try and loved that it didn’t feel ‘sunscreeny’ in the least thanks to a super light, easily absorbed texture reminded my of a NIVEA body lotion I used to use. I also adore – adore! – the way it smells; like gardenias blooming in the sun! In fact, something about it reminds me a bit of Tom Ford Black Orchid Voile de Fleur. Tres sexy.

While the product makes a big deal about containing Monoi oil (which has a gardenia-like scent), it’s listed pretty much at the very bottom of the ingredients list. What it does have, however, is a nice concentration of antioxidant, collagen-encouraging vitamin E and hydrating coconut oil.

As for the ‘shimmer’ bit, I like that Golden Protect does give your body a slight shimmer but it’s incredibly subtle. You don’t have to worry about ending up looking like a sparkly Twilight vampire. Just note that Golden Protect’s sheen is actually pearlescent – like an opal – and not gold. Anyone looking for a shimmery gold sunscreen will be disappointed.

Look out for Garnier Ambre Solaire’s new Golden Protect range in stores like Dis-Chem and Clicks. The range includes an SPF 20 (R99) and SPF 30 (R129,99) sunscreen lotion, an after sun (R69,99) and a low SPF 10 tanning oil (R79,99).

  1. What a coincidence, I actually decided that today I would get to Clicks and buy some! I tried it a while back and the smell was so amazing I have wanted to get some ever since. Didn’t really notice the shimmer when I tested it.
