If you’re a girl who likes to party you’re going to get invited to one that’s Great Gatsby-themed before the year is out. I almost feel tired thinking about all the 20s-themed events I’ve been invited to in the last little while. Clearly the movie’s started a bit of a thing.

Anyway, this is my Great Gatsby make-up face that I wore to the 5 for Change charity ball the other day. I just opted for slightly pinker-looking cheeks and a more vibrant, red lip colour so as to avoid looking like a zombie.

Anyway, as I received a disgustingly spoilicious package of Elizabeth Arden’s new make-up earlier this month, I used quite a few of their goodies to create a look that’s all about flawless-looking skin, liquid eye liner and bright red lips. (Ideally, 20-style lips wouldn’t be glossy but authenticity can vlieg in it’s moer; I want to look mooi, okay?)
To start, I used Arden’s new Flawless Finish Sponge-On makeup to create a smooth, almost poreless-looking complexion. I like that it contains lots of optical diffusers so, despite offering fuller coverage, doesn’t leave your face looking one-dimensional and flat. You can read my full review on this product over here.

I then used the same concealer under my eyes that I’ve been wearing for a thousand years; Lancôme Effa-cernes. I’ve yet to find anything that beats it and love the fact that its waterproof. Once it’s on it doesn’t budge, even if you get blind drunk and cry your eyes out because Jason Kotzen dumped you in Std 9 and now you’re single and he’s married you’re never ever going to get to have his babies. Jokes. I’m totally over that. Really.
Blush-wise, you’ll notice Daisy’s wearing damn near nothing on her cheeks but, like I said, I’ve found a corpse-like look never really brings all the boys to my yard so I cheated a bit and slapped some of Arden’s new Beautiful Colour Radiance blush in Sunburst (R250) on my cheeks.

Just a few sweeps created a pretty veil of colour with enough shimmer to highlight my bone structure. While it’s not an exact match, this shade reminded me a lot of NAR’s bestselling blush Orgasm but isn’t going to put you into overdraught with the bank.
To play up my eyes, I used my new NYX The Curve liquid liner (review over here) to draw a line across my upper lash line, extending it up and outwards. I wasn’t too worried that this wasn’t 100-percent perfect-looking ‘cos you can disguise any wonky bits when you apply shadow to your entire lid. I didn’t do anything fancy; I just used my favourite silvery taupe eye shadow, Urban Decay’s Smog, and ‘washed’ it over my entire lid, extending it up and ever so slightly beyond the crease. (If you don’t own a bullet-shaped shadow brush, get one now. It’ll change your life bietse1)
Mascara-wise, I’m wearing Arden’s new Beautiful Colour Lash Enhancing treatment mascara, R195. It’s infused with lash-conditioning peptides and carob seed extract to give your lashes a bit o’ lovin’ while adding volume, length and curl. To be honest, I haven’t really noticed a curling effect but yes, it does do a lovely job off adding volume and length.

Next, I stained my lips red using the only red lip stain I own, YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis a Levres in Rouge Philtre, as I always like to have a lip colour on my mouth even after my gloss slips off. I topped this off with a few slicks of Arden’s new Luminous lip gloss in Red Door on top of it.

The new Luminous lip glosses are available in a zillion vibrant-looking shades and have a strong caramel scent you’re either going to love or hate. They’re not as sticky as the glosses I tend to gravitate towards, but I know there are millions of women out there who detest tacky-feeling glosses. If you’re one of them, check these babies out and let me know what you think.
To finish up, I used kohl pencil to draw a mole on my cheek and then mattified my T-section with a few sweeps of MAC Blot Powder in Medium Dark. This sounds like it would be too dark for my skin tone but trust me, this particular line runs very light.
Anyway, that was how I got my Daisy face on. Here’s hoping the next time I slap it on it’ll help me snag a Meneer Gatsby. Or at least endear me to someone who’ll split their Gatsby with me, provided it’s got lots of Steers chips and hot sauce on it. Whatevs. I’m easy peasy.
Love, love
Leigh
Looks lovely! Where on earth did you manage to get Urban Decay eyeshadow? Have made a note on my lust list for Lancome Effacernes (is it better than Mac Select cover do you know?). Just a mention that I love Elizabeth Arden Ceramide mascara which is good for the lashes, and wear it under other mascaras! Tks Leigh, always enjoy your posts.
Thank you! I buy lots of stuff off eBay, you’ll find loads of Urban Decay there. Their shadows are amazing.
Re Lancome Effacernes; it’s weird but some batches are amazing and some are very ‘thin’. It almost depends which country you buy it in. I find that when I find a thickish one, it’s beyond amazing, so just make sure you try before you buy. Still, either formula – thick or thin – will last all day and doesn’t end up in your creases. MAC Select Cover is lovely but I’ve found INGLOT make a concealer that looks similar (same tube shape) that performs just as well for half the price.
thank you so much Leigh, for your response!
wow the lip color looks amazing, the pigment is super luxe
Dankie x
You look stunning!!! You definitely rock that Gatsby-look, Leigh 🙂
Thank you x x
You look great! I particularly like Daisy’s look because I have super light skin (not just because I’m an English nerd!!). Did you like the movie?
Thank you! I haven’t seen it yet; going on Sunday. But my friends who’ve seen it all say it’s amazing.
