Dr. Hauschka’s Karim Sattar popped in to Cape Town, launches a pretty new ‘Dear Eyes…’ palette

So I attended a Dr. Hauschka launch the other day and got to take in a make-up demo with the brand’s new make-up artist, Karim Sattar.

Karim Sattar is one of those special ‘sparkly’ people that everyone falls in love with ‘cos he’s so darn nice. A genuinely warm and lovely dude.

If you’re a regular reader, you might recognise Karim. He used to work with The Body Shop but is now a Dr. Hauschka’s man and it’s a good fit. Dr. Hauschka is recognised as one of the best organic make-up and skin care lines around and Karim grew up on a Demeter-registered biodynamic farm which is pretty much one of the best type of organic farms you can get.

Speaking of farms, the event was held in De Grendel wine farm’s new restaurant.

This was the totally stunsville view I got to enjoy while sitting in the restaurant. Can you see the horsies in the distance?

Jonathan Davies, the director of Crown Hotels and Restaurant group, told us he’d made a point of ensuring the snacks and sweet treats that we ate was made using ingredients prevalent in Dr Hauschka products. To give you an idea, in honour of the brand’s uber-famous Rose Day Cream, we ate carrot cake topped with rosewater icing.

yum
Yum!*

For me, however, the absolute highlight was getting a giant glass of Curds & Whey farm yoghut topped with crushed nuts and honey. Oh. My. God. Have you tried this yoghurt? I was introduced to it the other day as it came part and parcel with a Dr. Hauschka gift basket I received along with my invitation to this event. Check it out:

There was a bottle of wine in there too, but only for about two seconds. It had been a bit of a day…

Anyway, Curds & Whey farm yoghurt is handmade in a dairy kitchen at the De Grendel estate using antibiotic and hormone-free Jersey cow milk. You’ll find it in certain Cape Town food stores like Giovannis and selected Melissa’s and Spars. A 1kg tub is about R36 and a 500g bucket is R19. It is only the best freakin’ yoghurt you’ll ever taste in your life. If you spot it, buy it without thinking and tweet me to tell me how right I am. It’s seriously one of my new favourite things.

I can’t even show you a full tub. I literally wolved the whole tub down within minutes of its arrival. Like I said, it had been one helluva day so no judging, okay?

Anyway, let’s get back to beauty!

While us beauties sat around stuffing our faces, Karim did a make-up demo and shared a few of his top make-up tips. One that stood out for me was that he reckons you shouldn’t apply black mascara to your lower lashes as it will age you. Instead, use a brown mascara.

Karim also showed off the items from Dr. Hauschka’s new Dear Eyes… collection.

It consists of a universally flattering Eyeshadow Trio (beige, rose and chocolate), Volume mascara in Black, kajal eyeliner in Black and two new eye shadow brushes.

The brushes, a blender brush and flat eye definer brush, are cruelty-free and made from pony hair that’s gathered as a by product of pony grooming. No My Little Ponies where harmed in their making, promise. The shadows are enriched with medicinal plant extracts like black tea and witch hazel to take care of the skin around your eye area.

Being a spoiled cow, I left with a little goodie bag containing the eye shadow, mascara and eyeliner and wasted no time in trying them out.

Pretty pretty! Dr. Hauschka’s definitely in on the rose gold trend…

I love that the eye shadows (R440) smell like roses, glide on like silk and are enriched with medicinal plants like witch hazel and black tea to care for the skin around your eyes. The mascara (R377) isn’t as volumising as I would like but does a great job of defining my lashes. It also smells like roses and contains lash conditioning silk protein. The eye pencil (R233), however, is serious winner. It literally glides across your skin, is jet black and sticks around the whole darn day. Very, very impressive.

Anyway, this was a fun day out in a beautiful venue. A big dankie to Lynn Giles from QEIII PR and Events and Caro Copeland from Dr. Hauschka SA who put the bash together.

Love, love

Leigh
