Candy Face: YSL’s pretty, sugar-inspired spring look 2012

Craving a li’l sugar? YSL’s new spring look, Candy Face, has just hit the shelves:

I want candy! (Or perhaps just a pomegranate!)

A playful, uber-girlie collection, it was inspired by delectable sugary indulgences like candied fruit, crystalised rose petals and colourful rock candy. Thus, you’re looking at a smorgasboard of pretty pastels for eyes teamed with bright pops of juicy-looking lip colours.

I was lucky enough to be given a selection of goodies to play with:

How much do we love the uber luxe-looking gold packaging?

The two stars of the show are definitely the two eye palettes:

Ombres 5 Lumieres in 13 (R665) on the left and the Rock Candy palette (R795) on the right.

Ombres 5 Lumieres 13 (which reminds me of Easter eggs!) contains five pretty pastel shades that, despite being glitter-infused, look super sheer on your skin. In this way, they all make great highlighters to use either in the inner corner of your eye or on your brow bone.

These are very subtle shadows; hope you can see them in this pic.

The Rock Candy Palette packs more of a pigment punch, however. The lilac and fuchsia shade are rather pearly-looking while the baby pink and indigo hue have more of a satin finish. All four shades pretty much glide across your skin.

My favourite item of the lot, however, is the Volume Effect Faux Cils waterproof mascara (R325). In fact, it’s definitely the best waterproof mascara I’ve ever used. I love that the formula’s nice and wet so it slicks onto your lashes with ease but doesn’t smear all over your eye area.

Its long, skinny brush creates great definition and killer length (but not much volume) and, once dry, it doesn’t budge until you take it off with an oil-based make-up remover.

Love this!

Oh! And let’s not forget about the nail colours. The collection includes two limited edition Duo Manicure Couture nail polish duos (R275) in No. 7 (a team of black and mint) and No. 8 (tangerine and pink). Each polish boasts a specially angled brush that makes it easy to create a colourful French mani tip. (I’d have made a swatch for you myself but I’m wearing gel at the mo.)

See the slanted brush?

YSL’s Candy Face collection also includes five new lip colours and two new lip glosses. To view the entire look, you’ll have to hit up the mall; it’s out right now in selected Edgars and Red Square stores as we ‘speak’.

Love, love
