Touched by an Angel

I’ve never used to liked Thierry Mugler’s Angel. I thought it was far too cloying, loud and obnoxious. In fact, I often used to refer to it as The Angel of Death, so you can only imagine how weird it feels to be reaching for it almost every day!

I attended a dinner the other day and was given a little mini bottle of it along with a shower gel and body lotion as a gift. It sat next to my bed for a bit while I decided what I would do with it and every so often, I’d try the teensiest smidge of the body lotion. A part of me really wanted to understand the scent and see what all the fuss was about. Perhaps this somehow desensitized me to it because now I’ve fallen head over heels in love with its sweet chocolately deliciousness and find it oddly comforting.

My boyfriend, however, hates it, and one of my besties, Karisa, doesn’t think it suits me. Despite all this I’m still going to wear it, even if its just around the house while I sit at home and write. The staying power’s pretty intense though. I put some on this morning and even now, a good ten hours later, I can still smell it on my wrist.

Now I’m looking forward to sniffing 2011’s ‘summery version’ of the scent. (For the last few years, Mugler’s been bringing out a limited edition Angel flanker called Sunessence. It’s a slightly lighter version of the original and makes use of different top notes.) This year’s is called Angel Sunessence Ocean D’Argent, R790 for 50ml.

Instead of Angel's usual begamot and mandarin top notes, it makes use of kumquat and a sea salt blossom accord that rest on the scent's classic base of vanilla, chocolate, caramel and patchouli.

Reckon it sounds good enough to eat…
