Who wants to win a Legacy Collection by Charmaine Taylor Africa Rising pendant worth R2 500?

Legacy Collection by Charmaine Taylor just has to be one of the most poignantly beautiful jewellery brands in South Africa. Each and every handcrafted work of art uses a little piece of the fence that used to surround Robben Island prison. What was once used to oppress is now a striking symbol for freedom, forgiveness and hope – all the good things we associate with the prison’s most famous former inmate, Nelson Mandela.

The fact that everything’s so gorgeous-looking is reason enough to love the brand, but for me, it’s even more personal because it’s founder, Charmaine is a friend.

A fellow ex-Port Elizabeth peep like me, she’s come a long way from the days when ‘best night ever’ meant a two-for-one special on Bacardi Breezers. Now, she trots all over the globe attending glamorous red carpet charity and art events, rubbing shoulders with her high profile clients, fancy pants folk like Taraji P Henson, Sean Penn and Paula Abdul.

I recently popped into her studio in Gardens the other day. It’s listed as ‘the best gift and souvenir destination’ by The New York Times.

Yep, the chandelier is made from the fence.

Upon arrival, I greeted by her cutest/evilest employee to date, Jack the chihuahua. Within minutes he’d scaled the couch and CLIMBED INSIDE MY HANDBAG in a bid to nick my biltong!

I’ve since been told he’s been given a written warning.

Anyway, let me show you some of the beautiful things I snapped in between distracting Charmaine enough to shoplift. First up, we’ve got rings glorious rings…

One of The Legacy Collection’s most popular pieces is the ‘Africa Rising’ pendant. It’s a fave with Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters.

    1. Thanks Natalie – it was one of my original designs – only got a few limited edition pieces left

    1. The absolutely stunning peace bracelet as well as the freedom bracelet and the free will pendent too! The names of the individual pieces all represent something to me in my work place as well – being a teacher and educating in an area that needs peace / the children’s freedom to learn ( their parents want them to be better than they are ) and their free will to be who they want to be! How amazing would it be to wear a piece of jewelry that would represent something else in my life of being proud of where I come from!!

  3. Recently moved, so the Africa Victorious Smaller framed artwork immediately caught my eye! And the men’s strength ring is also gorgeous. Especially if I imagine it in rose gold

  4. This is the most beautiful necklace I’ve ever seen. I am so mesmerized by this. You are doing wonders and this is more than great. Stay blessed. Your hands are magic

  6. I absolutely LOVE the Africa Victorious Raw pendant. It is so unique and timeless piece and since I am an absolute travel junkie, I love wearing jewelry during my travels which is a conversation starter. This piece is definitely one that gets the…are you from really Africa? conversation going.
