If you live in Cape Town and like a good jol changes are you’ll know all about DJ Rene ‘The Frenchman’ Tanguy. Dude’s been getting the party started at HQ for ages, blaring the beats with a mix of live drumming. After a short break, he’s now back to help get your ass out of your chair at his old stomping ground HQ.

His streak, which is set to continue into summer, kicked off last weekend with a celebratory initial HQ The Original Friday session that involved complimentary bubbles and canapes. Myself and a bunch of friends cracked the nod for an invite (thanks Jana!) and we had a total blast. This winter’s been dragging on for a while now and this was a lovely taster of the super fun party season that’ll soon creep in to Cape Town. It was like a glimmer of hope that there’ll one day be a day where I can pack away my electric blanket.

Next time Friday rolls in and you’re looking for some fun you’ll find it on HQ’s dance floor but consider booking a table for either dinner or tapas first. We all know they’re famous for their steak and chips smothered in Cafe de Paris butter but they also do THE BEST pine nut and parmesan salad in town.

Also, if you’re a gin-lover, please don’t miss their Watering Can cocktail. As its name suggests, it’s served in the cutest little mini watering can and contains a more-a-licious mix of lavender infused Tanqueray Gin, mint, basil, cucumber and apple-plum cordial.
