So let’s talk about the latest addition to the Kiehl’s line up – Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate (R625, selected Edgars stores).
It promises to ‘give new life to dull, tired skin’ using liquid-to-serum technology that hydrates the deeper layers of your skin while plumping it up to smooth out the appearance of fine lines. The star ingredients are mega-moisturising plant-based glycerin (15%) and Shiso leaf extract. I don’t know too much about the latter but apparently it can help reduce the look of pigmentation. When I first looked at the ingredients list, I kind of wrote this off as, despite all the glycerin, it’s also got quite a lot of silicone in it which my face doesn’t appreciate – it always seems to break me out within days. However, I’ve used this for about a week or so and far so good. I like that it it’s got a creme-gel texture that feels a bit like ‘watery silicone’, if that makes sense. So it glides across your skin, but absorbs in a flash and there’s nothing left hanging around on the surface of your skin.
So, who’s going to want this? Anyone looking for a nice hydrator, either to boost what they’re already using or, if you’re an oily-combo girl like me, sommer as is. If you’re concerned about aging, however, I wouldn’t rely on it as a sole time fighter or brightener – you’re still going to have to layer up with something that includes retinol and good a SPF. But if you’re after a li’l aquaboost via a feather light formula, this is worth looking into.
If your budget doesn’t extend to Kiehl’s but you want something similar – consider The Body Shop’s Vitamin E moisture serum (R149). It’s also a lovely lightweight glycerine-silicone mix that also includes antioxidant vitamin E.
