Exciting news Thierry Mugler fans; the brand is launching the new 2013 limited edition summer versions of Angel and Alien in South Africa on the 19th of this month.
New Angel Aqua Chic EDT’s notes include juicy, sweet raspberry blossom and tart green apple sorbet as well as rose, patchouli and vanilla. While it’s definitely lighter than the original, to me, it’s still very much Angel. I can pick out the raspberry note immediately and then it dries down rather fast to something that makes me think of those Belgian sea shell praline chocolates.
Alien Aqua Chic EDT opens with a fresh burst of pink grapefruit and lemon blossom before revealing an orange blossom heart on warm (yet light) base of amber and wood. To me, it initially smells like very zesty grapefruit and lemons. After a minute or so I pick up the orange blossom and, weirdly, a dash of powder, which makes me think of Eli Saab. The dry down, however, is totally Alien but much, much lighter and infused with lots and lots of lemon.
While I reckon both scents are lovely (and I’m not even a fan of the original Angel), I really like Alien Aqua Chic. Even though I still have and wear the 2012 summer flanker I’d want to keep this too as, to me, it’s even lighter and different enough to justify owning both. While I’d wear 2012’s at night, Alien Aqua Chic 2013 is most definitely a sunny day time scent and makes me think of tanning on a day when the sky is a crazy, oversaturated shade of blue in a garden full of flowers.
Mugler fan or not, these hot new summer scents are beautifully crafted and most definitely worth a sniff.
UPDATE: Like I said, I’m not an Angel fan but low and behold I’ve been wearing Angel Aqua Chic. It’s light enough to wear in the day and so ridiculously girlie I’ve been completely and utterly charmed.
