Right! Topshop’s finally opened it’s doors in Cape Town, specifically at the V&A Waterfront.

You have no idea as to how much build up and excitement revolved around this launch. I had die-hard fashion friends literally offering to pay me to take me along as their plus one to this event but, alas, being the hottest ticket in town, you weren’t going to get in with a plus one.
I know I usually include a bit of ‘so who was all there/peeps on the scene’ shizz when it comes to big launches but lets not pretend you’re interested; I know you’re all frothing at the mouth to get a peek at the klere so let’s get stuck in shall we?
The store stocks clothing, shoes, accessories, make-up and undies as well as a huge section for the boys (but I didn’t bother shooting in that area as I write for le meisies.)

They also happened to have an obscene amount of crop tops, ironically hideous jerseys and, wait for it, frilly little ankles socks.

Over all, I found the majority of Topshop’s clothes to be pretty much what you’d expect which is super duper trendy and dripping with edgy British street style. I mean, just look at their shoes.

As I’m saving my cash for an upcoming shopping spree in Paris, I didn’t end up buying anything. My blogger besties Karis Piss and Clouds, however, shopped up a freakin’ storm while lambasting me for my ‘boring, narrow-minded fashion sense’. Apparently, I’m ‘more of a Zara girl and too bloody “vanilla” to pull off Topshop fashion awesomeness’. So ja.
Still, I did find a couple of items I rather liked:

Oh! I did come very close to snapping up this top but Karisa nabbed it first.

I was also really impressed with the powder-based products in their make-up collection. The eye shadows are fabulously pigmented and remind me a bit of those made by another famous UK brand, Urban Decay. You only need to sweep your finger across them and gently swipe it on your skin to transfer their silky smooth, high impact colour.

..

Price-wise, Topshop ain’t no Mr Price but the prices aren’t terrifying. You’re kind of looking at a Zara price bracket. To give you an idea, the Moto skinnies were R589, the black purse with the gold detailing was R319 and a four-shadow palette is R199.
In all, I’m so glad that Topshop’s finally come to Cape Town. Having easy access to fresh, youthful fashion is fabulous and I hope this encourages more fab internationally brands to set up shop in SA (I’m talking to you H&M!). Also, I love that stores like these are giving tired, old local chain stores some much needed competition. There are only so many mustard-coloured ruffle shirts (with corsages safety pinned to the breast, nogal) that Truworths can get away.
Now get thee to Topshop and leave me your thoughts in the comments section. I’d love to know what you think about their stuff.
Love, love
Leigh
P.S. I nearly forgot to include this piccie. The launch featured a take-away table filled with a zillion different sweeties that guests could help themselves to. Can you say ‘awesome!’? Can’t tell you how glad I was to have rocked up with a tote as opposed to a clutch.

Not sure I would wear half that stuff, but the makeup looked good. Pity the sweets aren’t a permanent thing. 😛
I know, right?!
A lot of hideous, but then thats just moi. I can’t get around “ironically hideous” jerseys, sorry, they are just plain old hideous and worthy only of my “Ugly Jersey Party” planned for early winter where all attendees can leave the ugliness on their way out for me to donate to the local bergies. ;-p x
I remember Pep Store parties used to be a ‘thing’ in PE; you’d rock up in a mismatched outfit by Pep, take a bunch of fun shots and then leave your outfit behind to be donated to a charity. Very, very cool.
Men read your posts too! no sneak peek on what TopMan has. Oh well! Gonna get myself over there asap. Great post though xo
Good to know and thanks for the love x x
Kitty cat ears are a thing, I’m noticing them everywhere – music videos, blogs etc.
Mr P even has them soooo its a thing!
I love those frilly ankle socks..
Leigh you are hilarious! Love this post! Yes Topshop is not for everyone, but still reminds me of my first trip to the UK and the first time I entered the store on Oxford Street before there was even a notion of a Zara. My heart still aches after that perfect fitted long leather coat I left behind 😦
SOOOOO glad they’re finally in SA! Gosh, sorry guys, but I don’t really see any “ugly” going on, just a whole lot of awesome! Luuuurv those studded skoentjies and can’t wait to check out the makeup. If it’s anything like Urban Decay, I’m so in.
