Stila Color Balm lipstick review

Okay, so how much do we love Stila? Their eye shadows are the stuff of legend and their Perfect & Correct foundations is absolutely fabulous. Today, however, I want to fill you in on the brand’s new Colour Balm lipstick. I got to pick my own colour (thanks Kirsty!) and opted for Betsey as I’m a freak for fuchsia.

Stila Color Balm lipstick in Betsey, R210.

I love how this shade looks good with either a tan or super pale skin and is blue-based to help create the illusion of whiter teeth. It’s also got quite a bit of violet in it which makes it look a little bit edgy.

Super creamy and uber shiny, right? And do you see what I’m saying about the pers undertone?

Anyway, as Color Balm is jam-packed with pigment but contains loads of hydrating plantoils like jojoba, it looks like a high impact lippie but feels like you’re wearing a balm. In fact, it’s one of the most ‘comfortable’, creamy-feeling lipsticks I’ve worn in ages and I love that it contains peppermint oil; it makes your lips feel cool and tingly for ages after application.

Still, most moisturising lip colours tend to struggle in the longevity department. Their hydrating nature causes them to slide off the lips and you end up having to constantly reapply them. Not so with colour balm. It somehow manages to stick around.

Here I’m wearing two slicks of Betsey. It looks so shiny you’d think I’d but a gloss on top (but I so didn’t.)

The other thing I like about it is that there are two ways to wear it. You can either dab it on with your finger and give your lips a stained-effect or slick it on directly from the tube for a serious satin-effect colour dose. I tend to do more of the former as Betsey’s incredibly bont but when the sun goes down I like to bump up the colour to maximum effect. I’m now keen to try other shades in store, partiularlly the darker ones, as this lippie’s buildability makes them easier to get away with.

If you pass a Stila counter go check them out; they’re totally worth a look.

Love, love

UPDATE: I’ve just discovered that Betsey, due to it’s intensely creamy nature and slightly stain-a-licious nature, makes for an almost cream blush. Yayness! I totally love this lip colour!

  1. Hi! I’ve been out of the country and didn’t know we get Stila in South Africa, that’s good news! Where? I’m after the highlighting duo…
