I love Smashbox, it’s a great brand and their eye shadows are especially awesome. I used to get a lot of wear out of a shimmery taupey-grey shade called Minx (it was a great all over the lid at night type of colour) until I accidentally smashed it to bits. In fact, the inside of my make-up bag is still a little Minx-y hued.
Anyway, I was thrilled to recieve a few goodies from Smashbox’s gorgeous new Love Me spring collection.
Unfortunately, it didn’t arrive in time to make my fab Valentine’s Day gifts post but if it had it would’ve been top of the list; everything is absolutely awesome. While you’re seeing a sampling of the collection up above, there’s actually more two it; another eye shadow palette, lippie and lipgloss. To see the full range click here.
Of everything I received and played with I most adored the 5-shade eye shadow palette (R390).
The pigmentation is beyond and the colours glide on like silk. Seriously. You only need to touch your eye make-up applicator to it and just like that you’ve almost got enough hue to sweep across your entire lid. The longevity is also ridic. Even without primer these shadows stick around all day. With primer, you could slick ’em on, go to bed and wake up the next day still looking like you’ve just put them on. (But don’t do that, okay!)
Now let’s talk lips…
The lip gloss (R180) is a gorgeous light-reflecting fuchsia that looks scary in the tube but lovely and sheer on your lips. It’s like a less sticky version of one of my holy grail lip glosses, MAC lipglass in Flashmode. I love how it’s shimmery blue base creates the illusion of whiter looking teeth. Always a good thing! The red lippie (R190) is also blue based. Very blue based actually. Slicking it on makes me look like I’ve spent the morning wearing a Crest whitening strip. Love that!
As for the blush (R220), it’s totally sublime; a pretty hybrid between peach and pink and’ll flatter both cool and warm complexions.
It’s also fabulously pigmented, so much so that the first time I used it I put way too much on the brush and ended up with a touch o’ clown face. I was clearly used to my beloved but much less luxurious Rimmel Apricot blush which, due to being a much cheaper formula, requires a bit of layering to get the ‘peach’ you’re after. With Smashbox’s blush, you only need the slightest swirl and dab to make an impact.
