I took a little road trip out of town the other day to attend the wedding of two friends in Nature’s Valley which is just outside of Plett; a cool six hour drive from Cape Town.
Above is a cute little vid my friend Toolz took on the bus. I’ve just googled him to make sure I spell his name right – Thulane not Thulani – and have just realised he’s actually a bit of a deal. (Jeez Toolz, why didn’t you tell me you were ‘Jozi’s favourite son‘? Apparently you’re always followed by a ‘harem of beautiful women that fall all over you’. I freakin’ hope that’s myself, Clouds and Karis Piss that they’re talking about…)
Anyway, it rained all day on the Saturday (boo!) so I didn’t take part in the planned hike but I did get to break out my sunscreen on Sunday, during my drive back home.
It was positively BOILING, you see, and while my aircon took care of the heat, my right leg and arm felt like they frying in the sun, even through my car’s window. In fact, many people don’t realise this important li’l sun fact: while sunburn-causing UVA rays can’t get through normal glass, UVB rays that cause the sun damage that becomes more visible later can.
I was super glad to have Piz Buin’s Tan & Protect Tan Intensifying sun lotion SPF 15 (R190) on me.
Now let’s try get a non-sundrenched shot of that shall we?
I love that it feels nice and light – not sticky in the least – and sinks into your skin as though you were applying a mere body lotion. What makes it interesting, however, is its tan acceleration benefits. It contains an amino acid that causes your body to produce more melanin (pigment) so you end up being able to go just that little bit darker in the sun. (Not as dark as Toolz, but hey, I try.)
And yes, I know that the only safe tan is self-tan but I’d be lying to you if I said I didn’t like hitting the beach every now and again. At least now, when I do hit up Clifton 4th, I can hopefully, get more colour on my legs in less time. My face and chest, however, will always be covered up in a super high SPF and Piz Buin make a very good one too but that’s something I’ll tell you about in another post.
You’ll find Piz Buin products where most good sunscreens are sold but I’ve also just spotted it going for R189,99 on Ruby Box. Clicky clicky…
