Shiseido cater to darker skin tones with new additions to their foundation line up

Remember my Shiseido Radiant Lifting foundation review? In it, I also mentioned that the brand had expanded some of their other foundation lines to cater for darker skin tones.

Left: Shisiedo Sheer Matifying Compact SPF 10, right: Shiseido Perfect Refining foundation SPF 15, foreground: Shiseido Advanced Hydro-Liquid Compact SPF 10.

Each of the above foundations is available in two new darker shades; D20 and D30:

You’ll see that D30 (on the right) is the darker of the two and almost a little cooler.

I handed them over to my darling Clouds to play with and here are her thoughts:

Being a slet for fashion there was no way that Clouds was going to give me a head shot. Nooo, we had to get the whole outfit in…

Shiseido Perfect Refining foundation SPF 15, R440
This product surprised me the most. The liquid was soft and light to the touch. I only applied it to my cheeks – not my nose or around my eyes. I was surprised by how well it blended in with my skin. It had a dewy look which I’m often afraid of because I have an oily skin but it still felt dry to the touch which was amazing. It didn’t cover blemishes or dark spots 100% though, but enough to still feel confident and look good. I think it’s perfect for summer day wear when you want a fresh, natural look. I would totally buy this.

Shiseido Advanced Hydro-Liquid Compact SPF 10 (cream to powder foundation), R440
This felt thick and pasty to the touch. I applied it to my whole face and needed to blot and blend it in like a pro. It had a matte look and did a little more in regards to blemish coverage but had a slightly sticky feel to the touch in comparison to the Perfect Refining foundation. As it didn’t seem to have any light-reflecting properties I felt the need to follow with light dusting of bronzing powder.

Shiseido Sheer Matifying Compact SPF 10 (powder foundation), R490
This one offered the best of both worlds. It’s powdery and soft to the touch and even though I used it to cover my whole face it didn’t need much blending. It’s finish is matte and doesn’t rub off when you touch your face. Blemish coverage-wise, it was great but it didn’t feel like I had anything on. This would be perfect for a day when you want more coverage and a matte look but again I’d still want to ‘lift’ it a bit with a bronzer or something. In all, if I had to pick just one, it would be this; it gets the job done effortlessly.

And there you have it girls! You’ll find these babies sitting at your local Shiseido counter as we ‘speak’.

Love, love
