Maybe it’s Maybelline’s new ColorSensational High Shine lipstick…

It would seem that super-creamy glossy finish lips are a serious thing right now, what with Revlon ColourBurst lip butter and Clinique’s gorgeous Chubby Stick lip balm pencils… This suits me just fine, however. I love a little extra sheen on my lips, mostly because it helps create the illusion of a fuller, juicier-looking pout. And we all know that girls with fuller, bigger lips end up married to men like Brad Pitt and live happier, more glamtastical, totally-thinner-than-you type of lives. But of course…

'What do you mean you gran wants her doily back?!'

This is why I’m quite keen on Maybelline’s new ColorSensational High Shine lippies, R89,95 each.

They go on like lipstick, but have a sumptuous-looking shine and balmy-like texture thanks to nourishing honey nectar and ‘micro-mirror pigments’ (which is probably just a super fancy word for ‘sparklies’…) Anyway, Maybelline sent me a couple to play with and I got swatchy:

The lippies shot without flash:

From left to right; Cherry Candy, Luminous Cocoa, Ice Tea, Juicy Pink and Mango Diamonds.

Here are the swatches shot without flash. Stupidly, I mixed them up so they’re not in the same order as above:

From left to right we've got Juicy Pink, Cherry Candy, Luminous Cocoa, Mango Diamonds and Ice Tea.

And…

...as above with flash.

Of all the shades I was given I most like Cherry Candy. It’s ‘red’ but because it’s so juicy-looking it’s much easier to wear than… say a scary matte red lipstick. I like how despite being creamier/slicker than other lippies, it doesn’t feather or disappear after an hour, although you’ll definitely have to apply it a lot more often than ‘regular’ lipstick formulas.

If you spot them in store (they’ll be on the shelves mid month) don’t be afraid to give the darker, brighter colours a go. I really do think you’ll like them.

Love, love

Leigh
