Much like Chanel number 5 and Guerlain Shalimar, Boucheron Femme is one of those truly ‘iconic’ fragrances.

In fact, it’s such a larger than life type of scent that Luca Turin, author of Perfumes The A to Z guide*, refers to it as the ‘Athena Nike of all floral orientals’. As it’s rather loud and unmistakable for anything else, I reckon it was probably the ‘Angel’ of it’s day when it was created back in 1988 by the Boucheron family, a dynasty of French jewellers who still bedazzle half of Hollywood.
Notes-wise, you’re looking at a very strong classic floriental with that includes tangerine, bitter orange, jasmine, sandalwood, amber and vanilla. The staying power is insanely good.
But ja… even though I don’t wear the scent, I still thought it was a sad day for beauty when it suddenly stopped being available in South Africa. I’m not too sure why it was taken off the shelves, but the good news is it’s back.
I was given a bottle of the eau de parfum last week (thanks Barbara!) but can’t wear it myself as I feel it’s more suited to a far more enigmatic older woman. That or much younger, super confident ‘hipster’ chick who’s got the whole ‘vintage vibe’ going on.
If you want to give it a sniff yourself, pop into your local Stuttafords to find it sitting pretty on the shelves.

*I looove this book! If you love perfume like I do, you’ll adore it too. It essentially ‘reviews’ pretty much every perfume out there and they aren’t afraid to speak their mind. To give you an idea, they refer to Paco Rabanne Ultraviolet as ‘aggressively, blindingly horrible’, adding that ‘the bathrooms in hell smell like this…’ Sjoe!
