Cake that’s worth the kilojoules: Tasteful Art in Loop street

What do you get when you cross a professional pastry chef with a graphic designer?

Seriously kiiiiif cake!

Check it out:

It's a Manolo dahling...

And there’s more where that came from… get a load of these:

Just looking at these makes me want to get knocked up so I can have them at my baby shower...

Above is the work of Kim Maccallum, owner of Tasteful Art (T’art), 199 Loop Street. I popped into the launch the other day and stuffed myself on an endless array of treats including the best red velvet cupcakes I’d had in yonks:

Red velvet cake is my absolute, ultimate favourite.

I also enjoyed a nice flat slice of this boy:

Num! He was white chocolate and almond, I think...

All of T’art’s cakes are made with fresh ingredients, free range eggs and real butter. You can order a really big one for a special event or just pop into the store to indulge in their slice of the day, an array of tarts and pies or an indulgent little cupcake – all the big cakes are available in cupcake form. They also have a nice lunch spread that varies from day to day, but usually includes exotic salads, wraps, quiches, rolls and pasta. Aside from making killer cakes to order, Tasteful Art also acts as a restuarant and can be hired out if you want to have the spot all to yourself.

Kim with her mom and dad at the launch.

Kim’s mom, Carol, is the owner of Just Skin Aesthetic Clinic in Green Point, just so you know. That’s were I first got a taste of Kim’s crazy good baking skills; she’d made a huge carrot cake to help celebrate the salon’s first birthday.

Remember me? I bet your ass does...
I don’t even like carrot cake all that much but ended up eating damn near half the whole cake. It was that good!

Thanks Kim, your cakes are to die for good and totally worth the extra treadmill time.

Love, love

Leigh
