Is your cereal making you fat?

Spring is pretty much on our doorstep so I’m making a point of cutting my calorie intake (mostly ‘cos I’m too busy/lazy) to hit up the gym.

Anyhoo, when I decide to do something I klap it hard, so I got all seriyas and bought myself a diet scale from Clicks. (Can’t remember how much it was, but it was less than fifty bucks…) Its made me realise just how much I’ve been ‘guesstimating’ when it comes to kilojoule counting. A prime example is the cereal dramz…

The other day I bought a box of Woolies’ version of Fruitfull Bran. The box said a typical 40g serving was under 600kJ, so I’d merilly fill up my bowl and be all like ‘oooh, that’s nothing… how healthy am I?’ Or so I thought… I decided to weigh out 40g this morning and was shocked as to what it actually looks like. Jissus! And for the record, that’s a reguar old pasta/cereal bowl… not a monster-sized recepticle for a table salad. Dunno about you, but I’m sooo going back to portion controlled cereal bars…
