Kanebo Sensai Silky Purifying Silk Peeling Mask

Wow, wow, wow… Gotta say it’s been a while since I’ve been this impressed by a new product.

This week, I was lucky enough to be given Kanebo’s new Silky Purifying Silk Peeling mask… and it’s awesome! Simply apply it to your skin for one minute and it sizzles away dead skin in a flash to reveal a seriously glowing, dewy complexion in its wake.

Kanebo Sensai Silky Purifying Silk Peeling mask - totally at the top of my new favourite things list

Now here’s the tech… and you’ll want to listen up ‘cos it’s actually super-interesting…

Most chemical exfoliators make use of AHA. They’re great ‘cos they do work, but can cause redness and irritation while increasing your skin’s sensitivity to the sun. Kanebo’s skin peeler, however, uses stabilized enzymes, a much gentler alternative that’s just as effective.

On top of the enzymes, it also contains teensy little ‘capsules’ of silk powder. When you massage the mask onto your skin, these capsules break open and help manually exfoliate and removing pore-clogging oil and impurities. As the granules are super-fine and totally symmetrical, they won’t irritate your skin like other granulated scrubs.

Can't believe they picked that Portman gal... That Black Swan role was mine, I tell you... MINE!

I used this for a mere minute and when I rinsed it off, my face was positively glowing, (not to mention a good two shades lighter due to the removal of my facial self-tanner). My skin’s surface felt amazingly smooth, especially around my nose. Also, as my pores had been softened up, it was all too easy to extract a particularly stubborn, recurring blackhead that likes to live in my cheek.

I also liked that despite being squeaky clean, my skin wasn’t stripped of all its moisture and had a lush, dewy appearance. (I reckon this is because over 40% of the masks formulation is a mix of mega-moisturising ingredients like Koishimaru Silk and ginseng).

At R640,00, it doesn’t come cheap, but I just don’t care. I’m going to buy this product until I’m a haggard old prune. And I like that you only need two pumps to cover your whole face and only need to use it two to three times a week. Reckon the bottle, which is 75ml, should last for ages…

Girls, next time you’re near a Kanebo counter, test this on your hand. The difference is very visible and you’ll feel the change in your skin’s texture straight away. Just take your credit card with you as, like me, I think you’ll be hooked.

  1. Wow, it sounds amazing! I have sensitivity when it comes to exfoliators but this one sounds very gentle yet so effective. I must try it, I used the Amore Pacific Enzyme Treatment Peel but I wasn’t too crazy about it. Now from my understanding there is two version of this Peel, Silk Peel Mask and Silk Peel Powder, by any chance would you happen to know if the Silk Peel Mask replacing the Silk Peel Powder?
    Thank you and take care.

    1. Hey Rashim – glad you like it too, I think its absolutely brill. And don’t worry, the mask is an extension to the line, not a replacement – the powder exfoliator is here to stay. x x x
