This month, Clicks has a brand new skincare range on the shelves called mySKIN.
Essentially, this is a nice collection of basic facial care products to help you cleanse, tone and moisturise. As the moisturisers don’t contain any anti-aging ingredients, I reckon they’re best suited to younger women getting to grips with a beauty regime or anyone who’s not particularly worried about ‘wrinklies’. Also, as they don’t contain any sunscreen, I’d suggest they only be used at night or in conjunction with a separate UV shield.
Off all the goodies in the mySKIN bunch, my favourite was the Beauty Fluid, R63,99.
It’s a very light, baby pink-hued lotion that reminds me a bit of Oil of Olay. It contains jojoba oil, vitamin E and seven other ingredients that have all somehow been derived from olives – from olive leaf extract to olive fruit oil! (FYI, olive oil is a great moisturiser as it’s a natural lipid – meaning it can penetrate nice and deep into your skin. It’s also a fab antioxidant and has proven anti-inflammatory properties.) I liked that it gave my skin a nice dose of moisture, but didn’t make it greasy. It also has a pleasant scent – a very gentle fruity-floral smell – and not a whiff of olive oil, which I actually don’t like. To get around the lack of sunscreen issue, I made a point of wearing it under a foundation with a high SPF.
At night, which is when I like to indulge in something a little richer, I used mySKIN Daily Face Cream for normal/combination cream, R49,99.
Despite being a cream, this also had a nice, light/fluffy texture and absorbed into my skin in a flash. The packaging is also fab in that the entire jar is made from a very lightweight, almost see-through plastic. It’s just the thing to toss in your bag and not have to worry about it breaking. Ingredients-wise, it’s much the same as the lotion – a total ‘olive fiesta’. However, it also makes use rosemary which helps speed up microcirulation, making it easier for nutrients to be absorbs into your skin.
The alcohol-free Balancing Toner, R31,99, (again more olive and a smattering of calming chamomile) is ideal for those with dry or sensitive skins as it won’t shrivel you up like a prune or cause your skin to flake. As for the 3-in-1 Cleanser, R39,99, (yip, there’s olive in there too…), it did a nice job of emulsifying my foundation, but struggled to completely blitz my mascara.
In all, if you’re looking for well-priced basic skin care, mySKIN’s got your back. Just don’t forget your sunscreen!
