If you thought Revlon’s love affair with Fire & Ice was a 90’s thing, you’d be wrong. It initially started as a lipstick and nail polish collection that launched back in the 50’s (yep, it’s been that long!) and the original oriental fragrance only popped up in ’94. Later, Fire & Ice Cool popped up in ’97 and my little sister and I were craaazy about it.
A fresh and clean-smelling woody-musky-floral, it was seemingly inspired by the big unisex fragrance trend (ckOne anybody?) that was going on at the time. I can clearly remember how it floated around the corridors of my school at a time when clunky boots and Adidas track pants (thanks Sporty Spice!) where the shizzle’s nizzle and tracks like Toni Braxton’s ‘Un-Break My Heart’ and Mark Morrison’s ‘Return of the Mack’ dominated the charts. How is that for a serious flash back?!
Anyway, the now iconic Fire & Ice brand has evolved once to introduce two new eau de toilettes – Inferno and Radiance (R289 for 50ml).
Inferno, the ‘fire’ is the warm, floriental of the two – a mix of orange blossom, jasmine, rose, patchouli, musk and sandalwood. Even though spices, amber and something resinous aren’t officially listed as notes, I can pick these up immediately along with lots of patchouli and musk. It’s the kind of scent that would suit a cold winter’s day or a hot summer night when you’re feeling sexy and want to make a statement. In way, it reminds me a bit of Roberto Cavalli for Women.
As far as Radiance goes, this fresh ‘icy’ scent is all about apple, peach, lemon, jasmine, white musk, amber and cedarwood. The moment I spritzed it on I went ‘OMG, this smells exactly like Dolce & Gabanna’s Light Blue, a very good thing as I’m a big fan of the scent. I’ve actually been wearing it quite a bit since receiving it and have had several friends comment, saying things like ‘Oooh yum, Light Blue! I wear that too!’ Later, a quick google revealed that Radiance and D&G’s bestseller share pretty much 99% of the same notes. (A very nice ‘Yay’ for your pocket now that the Rand has taken a merry nosedive right before Christmas…)
Win! Win! Win!
Now let’s get to the bit I know you’re waiting for – how you can get your mitts on one of two Fire & Ice hampers. Each contains both the Inferno and Radiance EDT as well as the body spray, lotion and roll-on deo of each variant with a total value of around R800 per hamper.
