So let’s talk about dating. I don’t know about you but I think it’s pretty wretched not to mention a huge waste of time. You have no idea how often I’ve met up with a boy in a restaurant only to realise within seconds that there’s no way we’d ever bump uglies. Thing is, I’m far too polite to ever whip out a ‘Right, you’re a darling but this isn’t going to work’ and then dash off before the waiter brings our starter.

This is why speed dating’s kind of awesome. You increase your odds by seeing several suitors in quick succession and can get all the big deal breakers out of the way within minutes. Think ‘Are you a serial killer?’, ‘Do you snore?’, ‘If we ended up having two boys would you be keen to keep on making babies with me until a girl pops out?’

The event takes place on the 7th of Feb (a Friday) on the Camps Bay sports field in Cape Town. Registration starts at 2pm and the speed dating kicks off at 3pm, ending at 8pm. If you take part, you can expect a welcome drink and snacks plus the chance to win a lucky draw prize and speed date with a local celeb.

I gotta say, the prizes are pretty decent. Just three that caught my eye included dinner and a movie plus a night at the 12 Apostles; a night at the African Pride Arabella Hotel in Hermanus for two worth R7000 and dinner for two at the Round House valued at R1 800.

You’ll also leave with a goodie bag and I’m willing to bet it includes the new Gilette Venus & Olay razor with five blades and two hydrating Olay skincare-infused moisture bars.
