Estee Lauder’s The Metallics make-up collection has recently hit counters in SA and yes, while it might’ve been conceived with ‘autumn’ in mind, it’s still most definitely relevant as we’re heading into the decadence that is the party season. If there were ever a time to get your sparkle on, it’s most deffo the run up to Christmas.

Inspired by molten metal, the new limited edition line consists of nail colours, eye shadows, lipstick and glosses and I was given a few at a recent Estee Lauder launch that introduced me to Modern Muse.

Of everything, I most like the Pure Color High Intensity Lip Lacquer in Liquid Petal (R225). It’s not technically ‘metallic’, but boasts a sexy vinyl finish. Colour-wise, it’s a deep rosy nude, if that makes sense and it reminds me a lot of Bobbi Brown’s shades in that it’s very much ‘your lips, but better’.

Another lip product, but one that takes the metallics theme to heart, is Pure Color Vivid Shine lipstick in Hot Lava (R275). While I prefer a matte red lip, Lauder’s shimmery red lippie might be a good move for anyone looking to bust a move in rooi but terrified of the fact that red can make your lips look a little smaller. Thanks to an infusion of up to eight different shaped pearl clusters, its super duper reflective to help create the illusion of a fuller-looking mouth.

Texture-wise, Lauder’s new lippie is fabulously creamy due to hydrating natural ingredients like apricot kernel oil and Shea butter.
Now let’s take a look at Pure Color nail lacquer in Chocolate Foil (R225).

This glides on without streaks and dries impressively fast to create a mauvey metallic mani that should flatter darker skin tones. I liked that, if you were pressed for time, you could totally get away with just one coat.
