I got a few ghd Candy Curls at Yemaya spa (then shook ’em loose with tequila)

Every body knows a ghd flat iron kicks ass when it comes to hair straightening. (The new Eclipse is especially good at it and you can read all about that baby over here.) Thing is, you can curl or put waves in your hair with a ghd too; either by wrapping your hair around the barrel and pulling it through or via the Candy Curl method.

Creating a Candy Curl involves wrapping a strand of hair around two fingers to create a loop. You then move your iron over it and release it to create a soft, pretty curl. To see what I’m talking about, watch this video by one of the brand’s local Style Diarist’s Fabia Dos Santos.

..
I was invited to Yemaya Spa in Mouille Point last week and got treated to a head of Candy Curl waves by ghd stylist and educator Stacy Shea (who’s mom may or may not have it going on…)

She used the Candy Curl method all over the bottom bits and then held them in place with pins while using the wave-curl method in my crown and face area for more volume.

You don't have to pin up your curls after creating them but Stacy likes to 'cos it allows them to cool and set.

She also made a point of using ghd Curl Hold spray, spritzing a little on each hair strand before exposing it to the flatiron.

This ensured my curl would go the distance and the formula includes ghd’s heat protection ingredients. Clever!

This is the result:

Curls fit for a Disney princess.
Rapunzel says ‘holla!’

The curls later ‘drop’ to become beautiful, flowing waves perfect for a classy, elegant Friday night bash with my even classier and most elegant friends.

Thanks Stacy, I loved my look and you were right, it really did last. I even had beautiful waves the next day when I woke up. I’m sure the lady behind the counter at the emergency chemist thought I was the prettiest walking corpse in all of Cape Town.

Love, love

Leigh

P.S. If you’ve tried to recreate the ‘do at home but failed miserably, never fear. You can make an appointment to have it done by one of Yemaya’s stylists or ask them to arrange that Stacy come and do it at your house for just R200. Nice!

    1. Thank you! I’ve never been able to master that myself. I’m totally useless. I must make a plan and practice though. The way Stacy did it, it looked sooo easy.
