Filorga BB-Perfect anti-aging beauty balm review

What did I say about every single brand on God’s green earth is going to bring out a BB cream? Hey?! Was I right or was I right? The force is, like, uber-strong with that particular beauty trend… In fact, overseas, they’re now starting to see the emergence of something called a CC cream!

Anyway, I got to try out Filorga’s new anti-aging beauty balm:

Filorga BB Perfect anti-aging beauty balm, R550, selected Edgars and Red Square stores.

It aims to replace your foundation or tinted moisturiser while assisting in wrinkle-reduction and skin soothing. The anti-aging bit is qualified by the fact that it’s got an SPF of 15 and makes use of corn extract which can increase the production of fibronectin, something that can help plump up your skin. The soothing part is covered by two natural ingredients (one of which is derived from citrus peel, possibly naartjies, but I’m too moeg to Google it) and have good anti-inflammatory properties.

In regards how Filorga’s BB looks and feels, I think it’s rather nice. It’s got enough slip so that you can apply it to your face using just your fingers (provided you then blend very well with a flat palm) without having to use a moisturiser underneath to help it slide around. Still, whether this is how you want to use it is completely up to you. BB’s are a lot like bras in that one size does not fit all. Some are very hydrating and if you’ve got an oily skin you’re going to hate it. The dry-skinned girl, however, is going to love it, especially after trying the oil-free one (which would’ve been PERFECT for you) that she thought dried up her skin and made her fine lines look more visible. Also, a lot of how you experience a BB depends on the lotion or cream you might use underneath it. So ja, lots of variables…

As I’m oily-skinned, I found Filorga’s BB, used by itself, to offer just enough hydration for my skin. Sometimes. There was the odd day when I thought I definitely needed more moisture and in that case I’d use a sponge to apply it over my day lotion without any dramz. In fact, on those days, application was a breeze although it would then sheer out the coverage a bit more. If you’ve got dry skin and want something that can replace your moisturiser, you’re going to be disappointed. In that case, perhaps look for a more hydrating BB, something like the one Garnier brought out a few months back.

The only ‘ish’ I have with Filorga’s BB is that they reckon it’s ‘ideal’ to use following aesthetic treatments like peels or injections as, aside from helping to reduce inflammation (fair enough) it can help conceal redness and bruises. Having had the odd Botox bruise, I can tell you right now this is far too sheer to ever even dream of concealing it. Not in a million years. It will, however, provide a nice healthy tint/glow and possibly blur the look of fine lines thanks to the inclusion of optical pigments.  I liked that, because it’s nice and sheer, I could use a shade called 02 Sable Dore which was a good two shades darker than my skin tone that helped give me a natural-looking tint-y glow type of thing.

Love, love
