Mavala have a shiny new nail collection called Show Time; a quintet of sparkly glitter-infused shades.

I was wearing a coral red nail polish the day they arrived (Revlon’s Red Bikini) so I decided to glam it up even further by slicking a few coats of Sparkling Red over it.

You’ll see that the sparkles are kind of spaced out. If you want a more ‘dense’ look, however, simply apply more coats. This is what I did with Sparkling Violet which I actually really like:

Still, while glitter polishes (and nail art for that matter) aren’t really my style I do know that glitter and sparkles and embellishments are having a real moment right now. Even American beauty magazine Allure, which flat-out refused to feature anything to do with nail art, has buckled to accept the trend.
Anyway, if you’re keen to get your sparkle on, Mavala’s glitter polishes are great. The only down side, as is with every glitter polish, is that they’re a total nagmerrie to remove. The best way, however, is to hold an acetone-soaked cotton pad over your nail for a good ten seconds before swiping vigorously (while swearing and ranting under your breath)…
Mavala is stocked by Dis-Chem, Clicks and other independent pharmacies and each polish is sold separately for R59,95 a pop.
Love, love (and a li’l twinkle)
