Bio-Oil helps make winter more bearable

I’m a summer baby. I like running around in mooi little rokkies with the smell of braaivlies on the warm evening air. Still, I get to a point where I start to romanticise winter. I suddenly long to wear suede ankle boots, drink litres of Milo and make chilli butternut soup from scratch! Then, when winter actually arrives, I quickly realise it’s actually pretty kak. I don’t like watching my limbs turn blue… there’s only so much red wine and 30 Seconds I can take… and don’t even get me started on all the ‘Ten thousand million ways to beat winter dryness’ stories I’ll have to churn out if I’m to pay my insane electricity bill…

So ja… Winter’s actually kinda pooh… but at least I get to wear my favourite winter perfumes and play with nourishing, luxurious-feeling body products like BalmBalm Rose Geranium face balm. (I like to slather it on everything, not just my face.)

Another multi-tasking winter wonder is Bio-Oil (R45,95 for 60mls) which is why I was thrilled to have one delivered to my door.

It even came with a pretty li’l dove grey pashmina. (Thanks Bio-Oil!) I took it out to dinner with me this evening and it came in handy ‘cos the aircon was kinda fierce:

'What do you mean you don't serve evil old crones?!'

But ja… getting back to Bio-Oil… People often don’t realise that Bio-Oil isn’t just one particular oil… like coconut oil for example. It’s actually a blend of several different oils including soothing Calendula and chamomile oil. It also makes use of mega-antioxidant vitamin E and retinly palmitate which is kind of like a mild form of wrinkle-busting retinol.

In winter, I like to skip out on lotion and apply Bio-Oil to my legs. Also, if I don’t plan on getting my hair wet, I sometimes drizzle a little of it into my bath. Many people don’t realise that you can use it on your face too. When mine feels dry or tight I like to massage it into my skin, leave it on for a few minutes and then tissue off any excess, kind of like a leave-on mask.

Are you a freak for Bio-Oil too? If so, let me know what you like to do with yours in the comments section.

Love, love

Leigh

  1. I’m exactly the same. Always pop a few drops in the bath and even in summer I keep it on my nightstand. It’s also a necessity when putting together pamper boxes for friends! The company is one of my favourites to work with and the brothers who own it aren’t too bad looking either 😉

  2. I use it as a night cream in winter on my face, gets rid of all the pigmentation from the sun in summer & combats the dry skin in winter…..love love love Bio-Oil! 🙂

  3. I sometimes mix a bottle of Bio-Oil into half a tub of Aqueous cream. It turns my skin from tree bark to new baby skin overnight.

  4. On face, on body – especially on legs after shaving and worked wonders to prevent stretch marks when I was pregnant. And I loooove the smell.

  5. The entire first paragraph describes me!!! Yeah am a total bio oil whore in winter, amazing stuff. Sometimes I mix it with The Body Shop body butter for extra oomph and it smells prettier.

    1. Also did that – mixed Bio-Oil with The Body Shop’s Vitamin E body butter and rubbed it on my tummy every day while I was pregnant. Not a stretch mark in sight!
