My beautiful Lucy turned 31 last week and threw a 1940’s-inspired ‘Blitz’ party. (For those of you who don’t know, the ‘blitz’ was a stragegic bombing of Britain by nazi Germany… ). The invite’s instructions were very clear; turn up dressed according to the theme or you’d be ‘fed to the nazis…’
So ja… this is my 1940’s-inspired face:

I was going to curl up my hair and put it in a side path but had one moer of a day, so I just pulled it back and stuck these cutesy little butterfly clips I found at Clicks for R28.

If you’re interested, these are the goodies I used to create the look:
Complexion
I applied Rimmel Renew & Lift foundation (my new drug store fave) and used Lancome Effarcernes concealer under my eyes. I then mattified things even further by using a large powder brush to apply Guerlain Parure Gold Compact foundation to my T-section. (This is crazy expensive locally, so I pick it up off eBay. A decent enough alternative for when you’re not feeling flush is MAC Studio Fix foundation). I then made use of my The Body Shop Baked to Last blush in Petal.

As my skin is oil-prone, I then keep my face matte throughout the day by then using my beloved MAC Blot powder every three or four hours. It pretty much lives in my purse.
Eyes
I created a slightly cat-like line using Blinc liquid eyeliner.

Once its on, it DOES NOT BUDGE until you wash your face using 38-degree water. It then peels off in one long weird strip. I also used the liner to create a cutesy faux mole. Next, I applied Benefit Creaseless cream shadow in Skinny Jeans, (a silvery slate shade) blending it over my liner, which helped blur the fact that it was ever so slightly wonky. (I’m obsessed with Benefit’s cream shadows. They stay on your face THE ENTIRE DAY and the name’s correct, they never dissolve into your crease. Busy Signal, a true bronze shade, is my regular, every day eye shadow. I’ll die if they ever stop making it). To finish up, I used two slicks of L’Oreal Voluminous mascara. It’s one of my fave ‘cheapies’ when I’m out of Lancome Hypnose or Clinique High Impact.
Lips
I couldn’t find my awesome Catrice red lippie (it’ll probably turn up in my car) so I ended up picking up a very cheap, marked down to nothing Lalu lipstick called Censored Red. Lalu goodies are currently going for a song as Clicks has decided to discontinue the line.
Ta da!
I wasn’t the only chica who made an effort – check it out:

Miss Karis Piss and her mobster boyfriend Bjorn…

And then we get darling Luke who took the theme very literally:

Love and red lippy,
Leigh
very cool! love the butterflies…
You seriously need to help me buy some blush… I have no clue when it comes to that stuff, so I just go without. But I also want pretty pink cheeks! 😉
That Body Shop one is divine. You should try it. I also love that you can use the beige bit to highlight under your eyes. Will deffo suit you. Its a pretty ‘flatter everyone’ kind of pink. X x x
Leigh Leigh, you looked fab! So much fun! xxx
As did you skattebol! I love that our friends all know how to rock a theme. Looking back we’ve had some killer dress ups. 😉
