Ryk Neethling’s wine launch

Hello girls!

This Friday, myself and Karisa, one of my besties, hit up Ryk Neethling’s vino launch at Val de Vie in Paarl.

Love my zexy white rokkie? I borrowed it from Karisa and she bought it at her fave boutique, A List.

I hope you appreciate the fabulousness that is moi. My darling boyf, Mike, had buggered off for a weekend in PE and forgotten to buy electricity, so when I plugged in my hairdryer to get ready, there was NOTHING! I ended up having to pad over to neighbours that I’d never met and beg them to let me plug in my styling tools in exchange for one of The Body Shop’s new Earth Lovers 100% Biodigrable shower gels. I’d also eaten half my bodyweight in butter chicken the night before and was still bloated up like a whale. Had to hold my stomach in for, like, THREE hours!

Anyway, upon getting there, the first thing I did was introduce myself to Ryk.

Hee hee... I'm attempting to feel his abs through his suit...

I asked him a bunch of questions too, but can’t remember half of his answers as I was hypnotised by his hotness. Still, I’ve come to conclude that while he’s absolutely lovely, we’re not going to have that torrid affair after all. While staring into his beautiful face – BAM – I suddenly had a flashforward to our would-be future and got a glimpse of our glam wedding skouspel on the cover of Huisgenoot. It was then that I suddenly realised I absolutely do not want to share the cover with a man that’s prettier than I am.

This was a good thing though, because Karisa is now head over heels in obsession with him and I’d hate to have had to fight her to the death.

Poor l’il Karis Piss… you should’ve seen her… after getting one look at Ryk, she got seriyas ‘crazy eyes’ and completely froze up. Girl has NEVER been freaked out by le celebbies, which makes her a fab companion to drag around the partytie circuit. I also love that she takes a great snap and has never been afraid to tell people, be they models or MP’s, to ’tilt their chin down so it doesn’t look so fat’… This is why I was so surprised at how she froze up like a popsicle upon clamping eyes on Rykie-poo.

The moment our meet n’ greet was over, I then had to endure her mad Ryk-addled ramblings… Think ‘OMFG Leigh! I could tooootally get over that I’ll never have children thing for Ryk. Like, totally! I could sooo do stretchmarks for that man…’ and ‘He knows I’m Afrikaans, right? I’d be, like, totally okay with baking rusks all day in the kitchen… in a bonnet, nogal…’

Now let me give you a little visual run down of the party…

Here we have the prettiness that was the venue:

Tres elegant This is the patio was a great spot to smooze...
…and watch a li’l polo match.

But myself, K, Dax and his friend Michelle spent most of our time propping up the bar…

Michelle, Dax and Karisa. Cheers!
The food was good too…
It might've looked a bit like cement, but the squid ink risotto was creamy and delish.
People-wise, Roxy Louw was on the scene in a sexy blue bandage dress.
She was also sporting little diamantes on her fingertips…
Rox says she got this done at a salon called Elegance in Durbanville.
Designer duo Malcolm Kluk and Christiaan du Toit where also there.

Malcolm says that if you buy just one thing this upcoming winter, you should make it leather. As for Christiaan, he’s totally feeling leopard print. ‘You don’t have to go out and buy a wild leopard print dress, just little touches of it like a belt or in the lining of a jacket will makes your look more exciting’, he says.

Love Christiaan’s retro Casio?

All the cool kids are rocking old school timepieces. Totally gonna cruise eBay to find one later...
The other watches that stole the scene where all the TAGS at the TAG Heuer display.
Do you think Ryk will like me in this one?!
Oooh look! And here’s Ryk’s vino!
Want a little Ryk in you?

Ryk told me it’s ‘easy drinking wine’, the kind you can just pop open with friends. Still the food pairing guide on the label says it’s best paired with delicacies like pan-fried kudu, stuffed quail and roast duck, so ja… easy drinking if you’re Khanyi Mabau. Still, I thought it tasted delish and it got the thumbs up from my fave foodie, Dax. It was definitely worth the trek out to Paarl. 😉

Before saying our goodbyes, K and I stuffed our handbags with as much free Lindt as we could get our mitts on… ‘cos we’re classy like that. We then headed off with Dax back to Cape Town via the holy grail of late night binge eating, the Woolies Engen on Orange! (I took great delight in going back to K’s place to get stuffed while forcing Dax to watch reality kak like The Bachelorette on PVR. Was sooo good to watch TV. Haven’t done that in yonks…)

Anyway, next time you spot Val de Vie Ryk Neethling in the shops, pop it in your trolley and take it home with you. You can then send out naughty tweets like ‘Ryk Neethling got me sooo drunk last night…’ or ‘Man does that Ryk Neethling taste good…’

Hee hee hee!

Love, love

Leigh
