Aren’t these type of pages just the absolute worst to write? But let’s start with the basics. My name is Leigh van den Berg. I’m a lipgloss-lovin’ freelance writer living in beautiful Cape Town and work for magazines, TV shows and ad agencies (but only when they pay me enough to justify dragging my body from my home office that also happens to be my couch).
Back in the olden days (I’m 36, but you wouldn’t know it thanks to Botox), I used to work as the assistant editor for a magazine where I’d hog writing all the beauty stories for myself, especially those relating to skin care. The more I learned the more passionate I became about all things beauty.
Since then, I moved on to work as a beauty editor for several online publications and had my own column at one of them, also called Lipgloss is my Life. When I left that position to go back into advertising, I didn’t want to lose my feet in the beauty world and that’s why I set up this blog.
It’s now been going strong for seven years, fuelled by passion, coffee and a desire to share all the knowledge I’ve learned from working in the beauty biz. I now spend my days test driving what feels like ten million products; dashing from launch to launch to learn about cool, new things and creating content of which I’m proud.
I’m lucky to receive a lot of product but am super picky about what I like. If something’s badly formulated or just plain sucky you’re not going to hear about it. I don’t have lots of time so my focus is to fill you in on what’s worthwhile as well as empower you with knowledge that’ll help you make smart purchases and avoid things that aren’t.
Thank you for visiting my blog, I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I do writing it.
