Luxottica shows off their latest designer eyewear collections at The Cape Town Club

A little while back I attended a Luxottica media day where the eyewear importers showed off the latest frames from zexy brands like Ray-Ban, Emporio Armani, Dolce & Gabbana and Vogue.

Moi in super trendy red mirrored Ray-Bans taking an especially douchey selfie (lots more to come, sadly) and Karisa from CapeTownMyLove.com with Villiera Wine’s Paul Kruger.

The event was held at and catered for by The Cape Town Club in Queen Victoria and the food was crazy good. I think I must’ve eaten a good twelve mini pork bellies washed down with a good litre of Villiera bubbly but it was totally worth every minute of the treadmill time. But let’s get back to the brille, shall we?

Clearly the floral frames we saw last season are still big news…

Flower power from Dolce & Gabbana,
Flower power from Dolce & Gabbana on the left and bottom right as well as Vogue, top right. (Vogues’ floral detail is on the arms, forgive the rubbish shot, I accidentally deleted the better one.)

Embellishments are also hot, hot, hot in a ‘so gaudy they could be gorgeous’ kinda way…

Ebellishment crazy
Bold and bright with embellishments for Africa from Versace on the left and on the right we’ve got Prada up top and yet more Versace down below. I especially love the way Prada’s contrasted their ultra flashy rhinestones with conservative tortoiseshell.

Colourful frames are still having a moment and, shape-wise, round Harry Potter-style specs along with 60s-inspired cat eye frames are still very much en vogue.

You’re looking at Prada top left, Versace bottom left and Emporio Armani bottom right. As for the selfie, Paul’s in Ray-Bans and I’m wearing Versace.

Spotted anything you like?

This new lot should be in stores like Sunglasses Hut as I type and, if you’re a Discovery credit card holder, you can score up to 20% off your new pair of frames.

Love, love

Leigh
