I was given a couple of Pantene goodies the other day and, out of everything I tried, I most liked their new Deep Moisture Soufflé daily hair moisturiser (price TBA).

While it looks exactly like a typical volumising or styling mousse, it’s actually very different and doesn’t even contain the same ingredients. In fact, its formulation’s super simple and mostly makes use of cetearyl alcohol.

Now before you freak out, cetearyl alcohol, despite its totally misleading name, is not actually ‘alcohol’. It’s a hydrating fatty substance that you’ll find in just about every hair conditioner and body lotion under the sun. It’s definitely not going to dry out your hair or skin. Just the exact opposite, actually.

Anyway, I’ve been using the odd squirt of Deep Moisture Soufflé for a while now and have been enjoying it. While you can apply a small amount of it to dry hair (nice to help you work out any tanglies), I get the best results when I slap it on my hair when it’s still wet. The mousse dissolves into your locks almost the second it hits your hair and you can then brush it through for even distribution.

In a way, it’s pretty much a leave-in conditioner that makes it easy for you to target-treat dry patches. For example, I’ll use it on my ends and the shock of super fine baby hair around my crown area that almost always requires a squirt of spray-on conditioner in order to detangle it.

Afterwards, my hair feels bouncy and light – this ain’t no horrible, heavy styling cream – and I like that the scent, a subtle, clean-smelling floral, isn’t going to have a smack down with your perfume. Oh! And here’s a bit of randomness for you; if, like me, you struggle to get the hang of only squirting out a small amount as opposed to a billowing cloud, don’t waste any of the product. You can totally rub it into your bod! Seriously. The formula isn’t sticky in the least (again, it’s not a freakin’ mousse) and doesn’t leave my skin feeling sticky or gross in the least.

Another item in Pantene’s Deep Moisture range is their Two Minutes Intensive Moisturizing mask (price TBA).

While its formulation is very, very basic (cetearyl alcohol to hydrate and loads of silicone to seal it in), it does what it promises which is to simply hydrate.

After using it, my hair is much easier to brush out and, provided I don’t use it on my roots, doesn’t feel too heavy when it’s dry.

Personally, I don’t have an issue with silicone in my hair products. It seals and smoothes and, as a results, can be your best friend in regards to minimising frizz and preventing breakage from brushing out tangles. I’ve never had to use to a clarifying shampoo to get rid of it; many silicones wash out sommer so with just a regular sulphate-based shampoo. However, if you’re super worried about silicone accumulation or are using an excessive amount in the form of silicone-riddled ‘serums’ or shine sprays every day, invest in a good clarifying shampoo, use it once a week and Bob’s your uncle.
