Zexy Cruella Deville-inspired winter fashion at Woolworths

In the summer time my personal style’s as fickle as the Rand/Dollar exchange rate. In winter, however, I pretty much only wear black, grey and animal print peppered with chunky gold accessories plus attention-seeking rooi lips and nails. In a nutshell, my winter style icon is none other than Cruella freakin’ Deville.

Love you tannie Cruella!
Love you Cruella!

Having a uniform, as such, and not deviating from it is great ‘cos it makes mixing and matching a breeze. You can also save a lot of money if you’re rigid about it, which I am. For example, I’ve seen lots of very nice brown boots but I refuse to touch them as I don’t want to have to buy the softer, warmer colours that would look good with them. Instead, I stick to black or grey leather and team it the 50 shades of black ‘n grey that’s currently hanging in my cupboard.

Anyway, the sweet peeps at Woolworths spoiled me the other day by sending me two of their hot winter fashion pieces.

dfgd
Woolworths studdded miltary leather jacket R650 and studio.w studded heels R375.

Those shoes are a total keeper; Tannie Cruella would be proud. The jacket, however, didn’t work out for me which is a pity as le military vibes are so hot right now and I’ve spotted it everywhere on people who’re, like, waaay more cooler than I am including big deal fashion blogger Robyn Cooke of Style Guide CT fabulousness. She wore hers to the Call It Spring launch last week and was all ‘Oh! I have the same top as you but it looks totally crap on me. Fuck. That really didn’t come out right’ and then sort of slithered away. Tact has never been my strong point.

But ja, thanks to Woolies’ kick ass returns policy I got to swap the jacket for a few other things and then some including a new pair of black ankle boots. While I already have a perfectly good pair that I bought last winter, also from Woolies, they’re now showing a bit of scuffage at the back of the heel. (I promised myself I’d preserve them by taking them off when I drive but knew deep down that that would never happen. I have a tendency to murder my shoes.)

Anyway, I’ve now found yet more Woolies ankle boots that are very similar but boast a non-leather covered heel so they’re less likely to end up worn and torn. I snapped them up along with another pair in a taupe colour that looks a bit warm in the pic below but they’re actually much more grey-looking, promise.

Up top: last seasons boots. Below: new lace up round toe leather-look ankles boots, R399 each.

My other Woolies fashion finds include this gorgeous leapard lines trench…

Leopard-lined trench coat, R550.

…and cute li’l zipper detail animal print top.

Mixed fabric animal print top with zipper detail, R275.

Like OBVIOUSLY I’m not going to wear both the jacket and top at the same time. Calm the freak down. I’m like a faaaashion editor, darling. I totes know what I’m doing here, okay?!

I also picked up two more casual pieces on days when I wan’t to channel Charlize Theron on an off day:

Top: studded shoulder detail cut off track top R225. Below: super soft low-rise jeggings R150.

Other items that are going to make my winter wardrobe complete?

Black leather look leggings, jeggings, leggings and tights.
Black ballet flats (possibly with studs on them, I’m having suuuch a mo with studs right now), grey wedge sneakers and black high heel pumps.
A black and/or grey blazer and black pleather biker jacket (‘cos I’m too cheap to buy a leather jacket in a style that’s trendy as opposed to classic).
A snood in black and grey and lots of longer length chunky knits and long sleeve dresses in – wait for it – black and grey.

Are you guys starting to notice a pattern here? To inject a bit of interest in between all the black and grey I’ll be looking out for anything in animal or houndstooth print.

All other brands looking to buy love after free to send their shizz to my door. I’m a slet for free clothes. Provided they fit me. And aren’t ugly. Or aren’t in a shade that doesn’t play nicely with my uber rigid capsule wardrobe. (As I type this I’m starting to get why I’ve gotten a reputation for being a pernickety blogger to work with. But that’s only if you’re stupid and don’t know what you’re doing. Or don’t agree with everything I say.)

Thanks Woolies, I’m wearing those shoes you sent me as I type, despite looking like sexy serial killers, they’re as comfy as all hell.

Love, love

Leigh

  1. I LOVE that leopard lined trench! Its gorgeous. And when you do get that cheaper than most faux leather biker please let me know! I did spot one at woolies for R550.
Also, will you not consider a red trench? I’m dying for one but can’t justify it since I live in Dbn.

    1. Nah, a red trench is the kind of thing I’d wear it twice, get photographed in once and then get sick of. Black’s more versatile for me. But you’re right about the leather jacket; Woolies has some amazing ones but I was too slow off the mark and all the ones I like are now sold out in my size. Bleh.
