Ruby Kisses 24 HR Eye shadow Magic Eye shadow primer review

Ruby Kisses a fun new range of colour cosmetics that won’t break the bank. I was given the 24 HR Eye shadow Magic eye shadow primer,R79,95, to test and was very, very impressed. So much so that it’s now replaced my E.L.F. primer which I used to buy online.

The packaging is a shameless rip off of Urban Decay’s shadow primer, but I’m not going to hold this against them ‘cos I’m so taken with the product’s effectiveness and value for money. I simply apply my foundation (or not) then use the sponge tip applicator to swipe a little of the product on my index finger. I then tap this onto each of my eyelids, making sure I get the crease area well covered.  I’m now ready to apply my eye shadow as per usual but, instead of ‘creasing’ up before the end of the day, it looks PERFECT for a whopping 12 hours. Seriously.

Let me show you:

My oogie around 9am.

The shadow in case you’re wondering is a Smashbox shade called Minx. I picked it ‘cos we all know darker shades can be suuuper creasy…) Now here’s another shot of the same shadow taken around 9pm that evening:

Not a crease in sight! (And I have no clue as to why my brow looks so bloody yellow in this shot...)

In fact, the shadow looks EXACTLY the same as it did in the morning, it’s just the flash that’s making it appear a bit more sheer. If you’re looking for a hardworking, value for money eye shadow primer, this is an excellent choice.

To check out the rest of the range, pop into your nearest Foschini store. Here’s hoping the rest of their goodies are just as fab as this one.

Love, love

Leigh

      1. Was told it’s in very few Foschini stores to begin with and will roll out to more of them later. I know for a fact that it’s in their (hideous) Golden Acre branch in town. Will ask the PR chica’s which others have it and get back to you.

      2. Bleurgh… just found it it’s still just those two stores until they roll out into more (no specific names were given) ‘in the next for months’. V annoying but I can tell you this; if you’re in those areas and really want that bloody primer, it’s worth the mission. I’m still obsessed with mine and the moment it’s used up (but that’ll take a while) I’m going to buy two more. It’s perfectly on par if not better than all the the expensive ones I’ve ever used.

  1. Any news on when we can get this everywhere else? My urban Decay is finished and I do not feel like importing again

    1. They were supposed to roll out into more Foschini stores as the months went on and that didn’t happen. V irritating. When mine runs out I’m going to try one from NYX at Clicks. Heard good things.

  2. Hi Leigh, I live in Jhb & been looking for this item since you wrote about it. I have been to various Foschini stores & they don’t have it & don’t even know about it. Have you had any feedback from them or can you let me have the contact details so I can take it up with them. So bloody irritated by this!

    1. You and me both! (Bloody irritated, I mean.) Was told that this would roll out into more stores as the months went on and it just hasn’t happened. It’s targeted towards a lower LSM so it’s in a few dodge stores in weird areas that we wouldn’t want to go to. I’m actually getting to the point where I might take the review down; I don’t want to help promote things that difficult for my readers to get hold of. In saying that tho; it’s (annoyingly) a brilliant product and mine is still going strong. When it finally kicks the bucket, I’m going to try a NYX primer or spring for an Urban Decay one which I’ll buy online.
