Rimmel BB Cream 9 in 1 skin perfecting super make-up review

The most over-achieving make-up product ever? Rimmel’s new BB cream (R99,95). It promises to do nine things, namely prime, moisturise, minimizes pores, conceal, cover, smooth, mattify, brighten and help protect your skin from the sun with an SPF of 25.

Rimmel BB Cream
Don’t you think GMJ looks a bit like Mandy Moore in this shot?

Because I’m a petty cow, I’d first like to say that I don’t understand how this product could ‘prime’. I mean, it’s not like you’re going to apply foundation on top of it. Also, it only minimises the appearance of pores and, in my book, ‘concealing’ and ‘covering’ are the same thing. And what do they mean by brightening? I didn’t spot any skin lightening ingredients in it.

Still, aside from all that, this is a nice product if you consider it a tinted moisturiser or more hydrating sheer-looking foundation. It’s available in three shades; Light, Medium and Medium/Dark. While the latter is a bit orange-y, the Light and Medium shades are more neutral-looking, if not a leetle on the pink side of things.

I used the Medium shade a couple of times and found it wasn’t hydrating enough to wear alone and was difficult to blend but both these issues were easily solved by applying it on top of my daily moisturiser. Coverage-wise, it did a good job of evening out my skin, leaving it with a matte look that got dewier as the day wore on. It doesn’t hide anything though. You’re still going to see your skin peeking through it (which is actually rather nice if you’re after a sheer-looking tint) so best you don’t toss your concealer just yet.

In short, if you’re looking for a BB cream, this isn’t it. However, Rimmel’s new super make-up is a good enough tinted moituriser.

Love, love

  1. I am getting pretty disillusioned about BB creams. They aren’t really moisturising enough to use alone, they don’t provide enough coverage to skip makeup… what’s the point really? Still, I will keep testing the possibilities. Not this one, though. Thanks for the reivew!

  2. Ja, I feel like every drug store brand is jumping on the BB bandwagon and women are falling for it. Why do you want a BB? Do you actually need a BB? If you really want an ‘all-in-one’ make-up solution, keep on looking. But if you’re happy to apply moisturiser and then foundation there’s no real reason to get one. Don’t fall for the hype x

  3. i have to admit, i am loving BB cream. I’ve never been a huge fan of concealer, always feel like my skin is suffocating and it breaks out. Been using the Garnier BB cream for a couple of months now and find that it is amazing. Love the coverage – and think it is moisturizing enough for my skin. I do still have to use some lightening stuff for the dark bags under my eyes though!
