Going to the Veuve Clicquot Masters 2013?

Growing up, I was a freak for My Little Pony so, in a way, it’s kind of like destiny that I’d end up swanning around at horsey events with regte egte perdjies and even more champagne. Or something like that. Apologies if that’s a really weak intro, I was up all night cruising Forever21 searching for the perfect rokkie for this year’s Veuve Clicquot Masters at Val de Vie. This year, it takes place on the 23rd of Feb and is certainly the most glamorous polo event in SA.

kjh
Hilton Weiner and Jenni Button-clad models put on a fashion show last year and will be doing the same at this year’s event.

Nobody really cares about what’s going on out on the field. To me, it’s a day of super chic fashion, pretty li’l fascinators, indulgent canapes and a never-ending river of bubbly. Oh! And Ryk Neethling’s like always there, so that’s reason enough to break out your hottest wedges and suffer, suffer, suffer. Beauty is pain, my angels.

Anyway, last year, I rocked the prettiest little strapless leopard print number from Forever New:

God, I loved that dress.
God, I loved that dress.

I know have to find something that’s just as mooi  – Oh the pressure! The Pressure! – and am sooo tempted to snap up this gorgeous little white and black number I found on le aforementioned website:

You could totally see this on me, right?
You could totally see this on me, right?

For those who don’t know, Forever 21 is the Mr P of the states but you can totes get away with wearing their shizz here ‘cos nobodies going to go ‘oooh, I love your rok! Is that the one I saw marked down to 15 dollars in the sale bale?!’ My bestie Karisa and I used to buy from them religiously until the evil fashion-hating meanies at SARS cottoned on to us, klapping us with a disgustingly high import tax. Still, I’m now sooo tempted to give them another bash and hope that the fact that I’ve moved to a different address will make it easier for my parcel to slide in under the radar. Will keep you posted.

Anyway, if you’re keen to pop out for the day, make sure you get your tickets in advance ‘cos they always sell out fast. R150 gets you into the picnic site with no extras but you want to spring for R385 which gets you into the grounds as well as a welcome drink, light lunch and the chance to flirt with cute boys that are more likely to come from old money than those that trawl the Met. Just be sure to stick around for the after party; that’s always one helluva bash…

See you at the VC Masters, darlings!

Love, love

Leigh

  1. You looked fiesty in that dress. And I do think that the risk will be worth while to order that little black and white number. You’ll rock it.
