MAC’s Spring/Summer make-up trends for 2012

The other day I attended MAC’s Spring/Summer 2012. Obviously we South African’s are in the process of leaving summer behind, but if today’s bloody scorcher is anything to go by, we’ve still got time to rock their four biggest trends…

The first big look is Ath-Elite. It’s all about dewy-looking skin, strong brows and muted mouth.

The Ath-Elite vibe spotted on the runway at Joseph Altuzarra S/S 2012.

MAC’s senior make-up artist, Michelle-Lee Collins likes this look the best. She says the quickest way to give skin a lush-looking glow is to apply a non-sticky balm to your eyelids and cheek bones, something like MAC Lip Conditioner SPF 15. Still, if you’re going to attempt the look, the one item you’ll definitely need at your disposal is MAC Eye Brows brow pencil.

This mechanical self-sharpening brow pencil makes perfect arches all too easy.

Next up we’ve got Ore-Inspired. This is all about warm metallic shades like copper, rust, terracotta and peach but you don’t have to be tan to pull it off.

Model's got their glow on at Max Mara...

The focus here is on perfectly sculpted warm-looking cheekbones so if you’d like to give it a bash consider investing in something like MAC Cream Colour Base in Improper Copper.

This versatile li'l dude can be used all over your face so you can apply him to your lids or use him to highlight your cheekbones.

The third trend is called Neo-N. It’s urban and graffiti-inspired so it kinda makes use of the same fresh-looking Ath-Elite skin but makes it pop with a bright punch of colour.

Obviously the catwalk looks that inspired the trend were v dramatic but you can interpret it in a much subtler way.

Last, but not least, we’ve got my favourite look of the lot; Nouv-Eau. This is a romantic look inspired by 1920’s glamour. Eyes get a single-toned wash of a muted colour while the lips and cheeks ‘bloom’ with soft, pretty pinks and peach.

Michelle Lee's top tip to recreate the 'blooming' lip look is to press the colour onto the middle of your mouth and then blend outwards.

I like this best ‘cos it’s laid back and easy to do. Also, as I’m so fair, I need a little colour on my cheeks and lips or I end up looking like a zombie so it’s pretty similar to what I’m already doing with my face. (Clearly I’m going through a lazy, non-adventurous phase in regards to my looks…) Want to pull it off yourself? Treat yourself to a new MAC Tendertone lip balm.

I've currently got my eye on Hot N' Saucy, a cheerful cherry red from the new Cook, Cook, Cook collection.

Now tell me, which of the four looks is your favourite?

    1. Yip, it’s in store as I type. I think it’s about R125. I don’t have an updated MAC price list on me, but will get one and fill in the RSPs ASAP. X x

  1. Tendertones are back?? Ah they are the BEST things ever!!!! I am so excited. My lips have never been as happy as when I am using them.
