L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate 2012 totally rocked!

Sjoe! I think I’m up for a two day hangover before I recover from yesterday’s Queen’s Plate, but it’ll be totally worth it… anyway, here’s a shot of my LQP get up:

Moi et Karisa. My dress is from YDE, the shoes were R130 cheapies from Mr Price and my tan's courtesy of ModelCo Tan Mousse.

I also had a cute Forever New sun hat too, a gift from my beloved little sis (See Mands, I DID wear it!):

Don’t you love Clouds’ hoedjie too?

Here’s a close up:

If you dared to call this a 'pill box' or anything other than a 'fascinator' Clouds was ready to smack you.

But ja… getting back to my rokkie… Despite being butchered by Tidy Tucs in Canal Walk, it ended up looking decent enough. (Tidy Tucs shorted the straps for me, but did so in a way that makes me wonder if the don’t perhaps outsource to underprivileged seven year olds tied to radiators in their basement…)  Still, I’ll never wear a YDE dress to another ‘mass event’ again ‘cos I spotted at least five chicas in the same one and if we’d all stood together chances are we’d have been mistaken for promo girls. Eek!

Anyway, I woke up from a post-Plate midday coma to the sound of my BB’s Facebook app going wild as my friend Lucy tagged me in me in ten thousand million (not always so flattering) photos. Had fun trawling through (and stealing from) her album which she’s aptly subtitled ‘shoes, champagne and not a horse in sight’. Hee hee hee… Here are some of the goodies:

Karisa and Bjorn looking tres chic upon on arrival…

…and a little less so as the day wore on…

I also LOVE this one… Bjorn and I gettin’ all ‘blue steele’ while KP pops out in the background like an evil champers-addled gremlin…

BOO in your FACE, bietse!

Anyway, let me get down to giving you the whole who was there, what where they wearing schpiel… like I said, I wasn’t in the ‘celeb den’/Stud Club this year so I couldn’t shoot too many who’s who (the new Miss SA, Ryk Neethling, Roxy Louw, Danny K etc were all in attendance), but I did manage to run into Jen Su looking gorgeous in blue Palu…

Tanya Nefdt was also there in a sparkly Slate number teamed with new Johnny Depp-style sunnies from Sunglass Hut…

Tanya and celeb dentist Emma 'the tooth fairy' King.

A close up of les sunnies…

They're Tom Ford, darling...

Elana Afrika was also out and about. She’s not wearing it in this piccie, but she was rocking a pretty little fascinator that won her 3rd place in the Best Hat competition. (Expresso presenter Kia Johnson came first, have no clue what she looks like so couldn’t stalk her for a shot).

Does anyone else think Elana's like a prettier version of Nicky Minaj?

While everyone looked v. elegant in the requisite blue and white, not everyone got the memo…

Er ja... okay...

Anyway, as it was incredibly hot my friends and I did a quick reccie of the grounds and then ound a nice little spot in the shade (convenient located next to the bar) and pretty much stayed put. In fact, the only time I really ventured out was to get a yummy sushi platter, but I made sure I was slathered in Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream SPF50 sunscreen which was handed out throughout the day by the Arden parasol meisies.

Dankie girls, you literally saved my skin!

I also decided to hit up the totes and bet fifty bucks on a ‘swinger’. (This means any three horses in the top three, but you need to nail all three names. I think….)

Ag shame, look how excited I am thinking I'd received all these 'insider tip offs' on who was going to win...

Sadly, only one of the perde I picked nabbed a placing. (A horsie called Gimme The Green Light snagged the number one spot for the main race). Thus, having lost my cash, I decided to toss a few more notes out my wallet, but put them on a sure thing called Seemingly Bottomless Champagne. This is when our generalised elegantness turned into not-so-elegantly wasted…

Before...

And after nine or so bottles of champagne:

Woo-frikken-hoo!

And a bit more woo-ing…

'...and then Tidy Tucs told me the job was super easy and they knew what they were doing and I toootallly believed them... bwhahaha'...

…and hoo-ing…

Fabian learns his lesson after asking Karisa if she knew she had a Smurf climbing up the side of her skull...

Eventually, after rocking out to Tumi & The Volume (who turned out to be pretty kiff)…

…Bjorn rounded us up and drove us home. Despite being younger than all of us, he’s the responsible non-drinker ‘dad-type’ of the group. Seven of us were squeezed into his car and, as we made our way towards town, drove him frikken mental by crying and wailing every time we went past a Nando’s or KFC. (He wouldn’t stop though… ‘carbs after sundown is bad news for your ass if you’re over 30’… and in retrospect I’m totally grateful…)

So ja… a big thank you to Greater Than for the tickets; this party totally rocked and was the perfect way to kick off what I hope will be an awesome 2012.

Love, love

Leigh

UPDATE
Oooh, I see Clouds has also put her blog post up about the day. It’s fun and fashion focused – and obviously anything that includes the sentence ‘Leigh oozed sex appeal’ has got to have been written by someone who, like, totally knows what they’re talking about…

  1. Omw!! Reading this with Tess and seriously, neither of us remember at least half of these pics being taken – and we’re on them!!! Great day, perfect blog. You are my inspiration. xxx

    1. Heheheh! Ja, things got sooo blurry towards the end. Can’t wait to have a balls to the wall bash again. I’m thinking a champagne bring and braai at Dani’s. Can corrupt you all with my evil peppermint crisp tart…
