The first time I got up close and personal with Catrice was about three months ago when I shot one of their eye shadow singles (Mr Copper’s Fields) for a Get the Look feature for Drum. At the end of the day, it didn’t make it into my layout due to space issues, but I remember how horrible it felt to ‘artistically’ crush it up. The colour was such a fab wear-it-with-everything type of hue that all I wanted to do was pop it in my pocket and take it home to live happily ever after in my make-up bag.

Next time I get to the shops, I’ll be sure to toss it in my trolley… in the meantime, I’ve been playing with a few of their zexy red goodies thanks to the girls at Freebees PR. (Dankie Ingrid!) Merrily, scarlet lips are a MASSIVE trend this year and have been spotted on both the catwalk and red carpet.

To pull off the look, make sure you get your hands on a blue-toned red lippie. And I’ll say it again, BLUE-TONED! This way, it’ll help create the illusion of a whiter-looking smile. An orange-y kind of red is going to do the exact opposite and bring out the mifftastical geel in your teeth; sooo not a good look.

This is a good example of a blue-toned, ‘cool’ red lippie. It’s also a very nice lipstick in general as its super-pigmented and long-lasting. Still, it’s not the most hydrating on the shelf, so if your lips are prone to dryness you might want to opt for their slightly creamier-textured Ultimate Shine formula. Aside from that, I’m tres impressed that it costs less than sixty bucks. 

Oh! And this is my red lippie friend; matching lip liner: 

I like that Catrice’s liner glides on with ease, goes the distance in terms of wear and winds up and down so you don’t have to stuff around with a sharpener. As my lips aren’t as full as I’d like, I use a lip liner on the outside of my lip line when I wear darker lipstick shades that tend to make my mouth look even tinier. I tend to apply the lipstick first and then etch the liner around the outside of that, making a point of being super-careful to cut a fine line between ‘enhancing’ my own natural lip line and looking as though I’ve drawn on a big fake ass-looking pout. 

Girls, if you find yourself wandering around the make-up aisle, make a point of checking out Catrice. Their quality in relation to their price is fab and when it comes to colour, be it red or otherwise, you’ll be totally spoiled for choice.
