Am I going to see you at the Lanzerac Ready To Run Stakes?

So there’s a hot new racing event in town; the Lanzerac Ready to Run Stakes, presented by Cape Thoroughbred Sales (CTS) and taking place at the Lanzerac Hotel & Spa. It’s taking place on the 23rd of November so you’ve only got four weeks to find a chic yet sexy dress in a bid to snag that hot, horsey hubby.

To celebrate the event’s inaugural launch Greater Than PR, who’s helping to organise it, ferried a nice mix of media, celebs and horsey folk (who are always super fun to hang out with) to Lanzerac in Stellenbosch last week. I’d never been to the wine farm before and was struck by how utterly beautiful it is.

Pretty, pretty.
Pretty, pretty.

It’s the kind of place you really want to hold your double page spread Huisegenoot wedding after snagging the aforementioned horsey hubby. Or at least a man who can afford to buy you one of CTS’s horses. I mean, every girl deserves a pony, right?

Going clockwise: Myself and Katlego Mboe from Expresso, blogger bestie Karisa Nicholls with Liezel van der Westhuizen and Karisa again with actress Lee-Anne Summers (who’s in a soon to release local horror flick called Safari) and Greater Than PR queen Galia Kerbel.

Going clockwise: Dom and Kerry from The Little Hattery, actress Nicole Bessick, Thandie Kupe, fashion blogger Jasna Zellerhof, actor/comedian Siv Ngesi and Busi Nteyi; Karisa (again!) with actor Aidan Whytock.

After sipping on delish Lanzerac vino and cocktails on the terrace, we headed inside to enjoy a decadent three-course lunch that included a crayfish and chicken dish. (The option was lamb, which was lovely, but when you’re offered a crayfish girls, the answer is always ‘yes, please and pass the butter, asseblief’.)

Despite having crayfish and chicken I dipped into the Lanzerac's Pinotage. It's utterly delish!
Despite having crayfish and chicken I dipped into the Lanzerac’s uber-yummy Pinotage and was thrilled to find it in my goodie bag after the event.

While dining, Liezel van der Westhuizen, the day’s MC, filled us in on what to expect on race day. It’s being held at the Kenilworth Racecourse from 11 onwards on the 23rd of next month. The dress code is strictly formal and you can expect exciting horse racing action where the stakes sit a two million rand as well as lots of live entertainment, good food and fab Lanzerac wine.

After lunch we all got to schmingle on the terrace once more, but this time with ice cream served up by the Ice Cream Ninjas who pretty much do what flaring bar men do but with ice cream and loads of decadent toppings and The Macaroon Queen. I.e. the perfect way to end a very spoilicious Monday.

Kiss that bikini body goodbye.
Guess I won’t be wearing a crop top this summer.

  1. I think you need to take your friendship with @ctmylove to the next level by sorting those 90’s style eyebrows, jong. Tadpoles are not a good look for the social pages.
