Bloom hooked up with a New York-based make-up artist called April Greaves (nope, I have no clue who she is either) to create their new colour collection, Belle du Jour. It’s all about contoured smoky eye make-up, perfectly groomed brows, luminous-looking skin and super glossy lips. The inspirasie for the look was Catherine Deneuve in the 60’s, but freshened up a bit for us modern meisies.

The collection includes three eye crayons (chocolate, black and pearlescent taupe), a high shine lip gloss (clear), eye brow duo, cream blush duo (sheer baby pink and pearl) and a lippie/lipgloss duo in ‘Day and Night’ (both creamy raspberry shades):
I was given the Super Glossy Lips lip gloss (R160), Cream Blush Duo, (R205), and Eye Crayon (R160), to play with. Of everything, I like the lip gloss best and have been wearing it on top of my beloved el cheapo Chinese shop lip stain. It’s got a fresh minty smell and taste and the formulation’s nice and thick without being ‘tacky’ in a way that makes me think of Lancome Juicy Tubes.

The Cream Blush Duo is enriched with Evening Primrose and Jojoba oil. It’s super easy to blend and glides onto your skin. It also smells DELISH as it’s scented with pure lavender essential oil. Unfortunately the pink shade is so sheer and pale that it barely shows up on my skin. Being very pale and in need of a little colour, it made me want to reach for another blush to apply on top of it. The ‘illuminiser’ shade, however, is nice and versatile in that you can use it to add a bit of pearlesence to your cheek bones or highlight your brow bone and it actually shows up on your skin.

Last, but not least, we’ve got the eye crayon. I got the black shade but it’s really more of a very flattering dark charcoal on the skin. It felt weird to use initially as I’m used to a ‘thinner’ type of eye pencil, but once I got the hang of it things were plain sailing.
I liked that it’s super soft and creamy so it glides across your eye lids with ease. You can then flip it over and ‘smudge out’ your line with its handy little brush.

Once it’s had a minute to ‘set’, however, it’s on like Donkey Kong and won’t smear or slide off your face until you take it off with eye make-up remover. Nice…
Next time you’re in Woolies, go check out the Bloom’s Belle du Jour goodies and let me know your thoughts.
