Steve Madden shoes are coming to Cape Town

Steve Madden make some gorgeous shoes; I often see then when I cruise for the perfect summer wedges on Amazon; they tend to pop up in my ‘You like that? You’ll probably like these too’ panel.

Anyway, Jozi girls have had easy access to Meneer Madden’s footwear for a while thanks to a dedicated store in Fours Ways mall in Sandton. Now, however, us Cape Town girls are getting a Steve Madden store too, opening in Canal Walk in September.

My friend Georgina is the SA brand manager and invited Clouds and I to come take a peek at their new stock. Out of everything I got to see, these babies were my favourites:

First up, we’ve got le Fifty Shades of Grey-inspired pump:

Studlyy pumps, R999

Studs and rivets are big, big news right now and this works the trend to the max. They’re also the perfect multi-tasker in that it doubles as a boyfriend-thrashing device. You know, for when he leaves his bloody coffee mug next to the bed for the millionth time. Or comes home blind drunk and crashes into your carefully categorized beauty stash while trying to take off his pants. Those situations…

Another goodie? This cute neon ‘n nude sandal:

P-lemon sandals, R499

When I wear flats, I feel like a huge hulking fat ass. Seriously. It’s like the moment my foot isn’t in an arched position I mentally gain 20kgs. This is why I like my flatties with a little bit of heel-age, which is exactly what these cuties provide:

Sjoe! Thank God!

I also thought these black espadrille wedges were pretty sweet:

Manngo wedges, R899

Last, but not least, they’ve also got a few bags including this neon number that’s been spotted on Kim Kardashian:

B Pandora bag, R799

Spot anything you like?

Ralph Lauren Big Pony has launched a fragrance collection for women

As it turns out, Ralph Lauren’s Big Pony collection for the boys has done so well he thought he’d let us meises in on the aksie with a Big Pony line up for women:

‘My Little Pony, My Little Pony, what will today’s adventure be…’

Too pretty, right? Each bottle is emblazoned with a number from 1 to 4 on the back which is the perfume’s ‘name’:

#4, the ‘stylish’ scent.

Ralph Lauren describes each scent as ‘bright, playful and energising’ but makes it clear that each ‘number’ has a distinct personality:

#1 (blue) is the invigorating ‘sporty’ scent with notes that include grapefruit and blue lotus. At first sniff I thought the scent was too one-dimensional in a ‘shower gel’-type of way but then the floral notes popped up and now it’s one of my favourites. It’s the kind of ‘spray on anywhere’, ‘quick pick me up’-type of scent that’ll appeal to anyone who likes ‘aquatics’ like Davidoff Cool Water Woman. If I had to team it with a personality, it would be someone like Mariah Sharapova.

Reckon there’s a RL Big Pony #1 stashed in her tote?

#2 (pink) is the ‘sensual’ scent created for the ‘romantic flirt’. Its main notes are cranberry tonka (vanilla) mousse which make it smell a bit like a pink cupcake. Personally, I think it would suit someone a lot younger than me who likes sweet fruity fragrances, kind of link Britney Spears’ Fantasy or Vera Wang Princess. It’s celeb counterpart? Someone like Justin Bieber’s girlfriend, Selena Gomez:

You just know she’s wearing a vanilla body lotion layered with Aquolina Pink Sugar…

#3 (yellow) is the ‘free spirited’ scent, a light, breezy floral with top notes of pear and mimosa. If you like ‘yellow florals’ like Versace Yellow Diamond (which also features pear and mimosa), you’ll appreciate this one. The kind of care-free, easy-going girl Ralph Lauren reckons it’ll appeal to sounds quite a bit like Taylor Swift.

Don’t you think she could totally play Charlize Theron’s little sister, or perhaps daughter, one day?

#4 (purple) is the ‘stylish one’ created for the ‘trendy, glamorous’ girl. The scent is a fruity floriental with cherry and purple amber notes. It’s my other favourite in that it’s got a bit more of a presence than the other scents. To me it’s sweet, but in a slightly more musky/patchouli type of way that makes me think (just a little) of Victor & Rolph Flowerbomb. The kind of person it’s aimed at are your typical city slickin’ ‘Gossip Girls’, chicas like your Leightons and Blakes:

‘God, these clothes are hideous…’ … ‘Shut up and smile biets, they’re now flying off the racks as we speak…’

While all the scents are different, they’re all sheer and luminous in keeping with Ralph Lauren’s Big Pony vibe which is clean, athletic and easy to wear; the ultimate in preppy prepness.

Totally confused as to which fragrance suits you best? Try their fun personality quiz over here. (As it turns out, I’m a ‘purple girl’ on paper too.) You can also step in store to give each one a sniff. They’re available as EDT’s in three sizes; a 30ml (R469), 50ml (R599) and 100ml (R749).
