Loving Soil’s Uplifting Coconut and Balancing Baobab gift sets

I love Soil goodies. I dig that they’re certified organic and make use of top quality aromatherapy oils but have mod, sexy-looking packaging. They’re also proudly South African and source their ingredients locally to provide an income for communities in need. As it is, I’ve just finished a bottle of their Balancing Baobab bath oil. It’s got the most addictive rose geranium and sandalwood scent that somehow reminds me of Zoo biscuits!

Anyway, you can imagine I was thrilled to be sent a few of their goodies including one of their new boxed gift sets in Uplifting Coconut:

The set (available in both variants) costs R215 and contains a 300ml body lotion and body wash. Individualy, the lotion costs R125 while the body was is R110.

While I’ve come to the conclusion that I still prefer the Balancing Baobab scent, Uplifting Coconut’s pretty awesome thanks to the inclusion of zesty lemongrass and uplifting grapefruit. This makes it smell fresh, light and invigorating as opposed to plain old coconutty.

Of the two products, I like the body lotion best. It’s an antioxidant-rich mix of Mozambican coconut oil, Shea butter, cocoa butter and avocado oil. Despite being uber-nourishing, it sinks into skin super-quickly so you can pull your clothes on in a flash. I’ve been using it on chilly winter mornings and like how its fresh-smelling essential oils help zap any ‘grey day’ doldrums.

The best of the bunch, however, was the matching Uplifting soy wax candle, R220:

In this circumstance, I much prefer the Uplifting Coconut scent to the Baobab one. It doesn’t make use of any coconut, just grapefruit, lemongrass and peppermint and makes my entire bedroom smell fresh, clean and spa-like. I wish to God I’d discovered it before shelling out for another citrus-infused candle from another very expensive brand. While Soil’s version is very similar, it costs less than half the price of the other candle and offers up to 50 hours of burn time!

Soil’s fabulous candles are deffo going on my list of Things I Like to Give as Gifts (along with the Twista Chopper and boxes of Toffifee). I can’t imagine anyone not falling in love with it.

GUESS who’s turning 30…

This year GUESS is turning all of 30 years old. To celebrate, they’re rolling out a new campaign featuring Claudia Schiffer, another fashion icon and one of the very first GUESS girls.

41 (ten years older than me!) and still a total bombshell…

They also held a little bash at their V&A store where local models showed off their new ‘capsule collection’ inspired by iconic pieces from their archives.

Leopard print and red lippie; my kind of look for sure.

Of all the pieces, I was most taken with these sexy skinny leg ‘Marilyn’ jeans (R1 500). They were the first pair of GUESS jeans to be sold in Bloomingdales in the US and every pair sold out within the first 24 hours of hitting the store!

Love ankle-zips!

Love ankle-zips!

I was also quite taken by this gorgeous little pantent leather handsakkie (R1099) even though it isn’t part of the GUESS capsule collection:

Perfect to lug around launches as it could contain my camera, notebook, BB and a smuggling of canapes to take home to my boyfriend...

Perfect to lug around launches as it could contain my camera, notebook, BB and a smuggling of canapes/dessert to take home to my boyfriend…

…kinda like these guys:

Ooh! And how awesome is this fitted checked shirt (R699)?

I’m a lumberjack and I’m on trend…

If you’ve spotted anything you like too, you’ll find it in store as we ‘speak’. The capsule collection, however, is exclusive to GUESS in Sandton City, Menlyn, Gateway and the V&A Waterfront.

The Body Shop’s Beautifying Oils will rock your world

The Body Shop invited me to a lovely li’l brekkie held in the restaurant at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. They’re going to launch some very exciting new goodies as the year rollsout and have re-focused their brand expression to ‘beauty with heart‘. Perfectly apt considering how they give back to the communities from which they source their ingredients and say no to animal testing.

Whilst there, us beauty folk were asked to write down what we’d be doing to help make the world a better place. Here’s my promise, shamelessly stolen from Ghandi:

Note my little champers-on-an-empty-tummy induced ‘smiley’…

Now let me show you a little something that’s sure to make you squeal; The Body Shop’s new Beautfying Oil:

The Body Shop Beautifying Oil in Moringa, R99.

The oils will be available in eleven variants but right now, only Moringa is on the shelves. Each one is made from a hydrating blend of nut oils including Fair Trade Marula oil, making them a great source of vitamin E and omega 3, 6 and 9. As they’re ‘dry oils’, they moisturise like a charm, yet feel light and silky on your skin. You can use them on your hair, face or body and even drizzle them in the bath!

I’ve never been crazy about  TBS’s Moringa variant as I’m not big into white florals. However, the way this scent has been captured in the oil is utterly irresistible. I’ve just rubbed it on my arm and, if I close my eyes, I’m transported to a sun-drenched balcony that overlooks the ocean. In my mind I’m wearing a sweet-smelling tanning oil and the breeze around me carries the scent of frangipanis and hot pink Bougainvillea, the kind that climb all over the walls around Christmas-time… Flip, it’s fabulous!

The Body Shop is also giving their body butter’s a fresh new look and Moringa is the first to get the face lift:

It’s the same formula you know and love, just in a new look tub.

Next time you pop into the store, please give the Moringa oil a sniff and tell me how right I am in regards to its awesomess. If you hurry, you can also abuse their current Mother’s Day special; 20% off ladies fragrances and gift sets.
