Exciting new scents and a peek at Jimmy Choo’s new EDT

3 Jan

I’m crazy about perfume and every year I like to take a squizz at the fragrance blogs to see what new and exciting scents are due to hit the shelves. To take a sneak peek at just a few new fragrances you can look forward to sniffing in 2011, check out this list on Now Smell This.

Celebs bringing out EDT’s this year include Taylor Swift and Kanye West while Orlando Bloom and Leighton Meester will be the faces of new scents from Boss Orange and Vera Wang respectively.

Personally, I’m most curious to try Jimmy Choo’s debut scent.

How gorgeous is the bottle?!

It’s said to contain notes of Indonesian patchouli, tiger orchid and toffee. Yum!

L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate competition winners

3 Jan

Hey girls!

Thanks to everyone who entered my L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate competition. This morning, I painstakingly wrote out all your names on bits of paper and had a colleague pull out two lucky winners – Cecilia Barron and Rozitta de Villiers!

(Funnily enough, Cecilia actually happens to work with me here at Jupiter. Can’t tell you how nice it was to get go over to someone on a bleak, back-to-work Monday and let them know they’d just won a prize. Love that!)

Aside from double tickets to Cape Town’s most prestigeous annual horse racing event, both winners are walking off with a nice, fat case of L’Ormarins vino! Congrats!

For those of you didn’t win, don’t worry – you can still buy tickets via Computicket and join me for a day awash with champers, fashion, high stakes betting and zexy celebs.

The Cowley sisters (AKA girls who really don't need nice personalities) show you how it's done.

And the after party always rocks! This year, guests can expect big name SA musos like Zebra & Giraffe, Louise Carver, Locnville and Gazelle…

Those oulike seuns from Locnville...

See you at the track girls!

Love, love

Blonde’s Mango & White Chocolate martini recipe

3 Jan

This is just too good not to share…

Popped into Blonde, one of Beluga’s sister restaurants, for dinner last night. They’re running a fab special that sees you score a cool 25% off your bill from Tuesday to Saturday and 50% off on a Sunday until the end of Jan. This includes drinky-poohs too, FYI…

We got to try some lovely things while there including a crispy calamari starter with a spicy peanut dressing that was out of this world and a decadent waffle made from ingredients that were all imported from Belgium. It was served with not one, but TWO yummy sauces. (Cherry and maple…)

The absolute winner, however, was their mango-infused white chocolate martini!

Heaven in a double shot glass!

I’ve always been OBSESSED with Beluga’s plain white choc version, and never thought anything could superceed it. This, however, is truly blissful. And, because I’m a nice young lass, I thought I’d share the recipe for you. (Wayne, our lovely waiter who treated us to exceptional five star service, was kind enough to hand it over)…

Blonde’s Mango & White Chocolate martini

1 shot vodka

1 shot milk

1 tsp condensed milk

1/2 shot white chocolate Monin syrup

SHAKE IT UP

Add 1/2 shot mango Monin syrup

This recipe makes for one martini, but if you can stop there, you’re a stronger chica than I am… ;-)

‘Cheers!’

Charlie’s Soft Snowflake nail colour a real goodie

3 Jan

Don’t you love snapping up an el cheap-o impulse beauty buy that turns out to be a total winner?

The other day, I popped into the back end of the Clicks cosmetics sale at the V&A. Pretty much everything decent was sold out, but I did that whole ‘let me buy just one thing anyway, so I don’t feel like this was a total waste of a parking ticket’ manouver. That’s how I came to own a beaten up-looking Charlie nail polish in Snowflake Pink for a mere R19.95.

Having used it a few times now, I can tell you it’s absolutely fab and reminds me of a blend of Essie’s Nude Beach and Mademoiselle.

Charlie's Soft Snowflake - cheap, cheerful, pretty!

It’s the perfect easy-to-wear, everyday nail colour and I love its long, thin brush which makes it v. easy to apply. If you happen to spot it in store (the regular price is just under R40,00), snap it up. You won’t regret it. Just remember to apply a nice top coat, because as with most cheap ‘sparklies’, it loses it’s glossy finish fast!

Love that!
